Can blogging get you fired?

Quote of the Day:
“Relationships are hard. It’s like a full time job, and we should treat it like one. If your boyfriend or girlfriend wants to leave you, they should give you two weeks’ notice. There should be severance pay, and the day before they leave you, they should have to find you a temp.”
–Bob Ettinger
Sometimes this is how I feel. LOL
No new writing yesterday. I tweaked the fantasy novel instead. I found this wonderful list of words to avoid and thought I’d share them here:
about all almost always anxiously eagerly even ever every finally frequently just merely nearly need never next not often only simply next not often only simply so than then to very well that
Maybe that will help someone else like it helped me. It amazed me how many times I used the word “so” and “only” and “just”. And it also amazed me that just by removing that little word how much easier the prose seemed to flow. Gotta love that.
I also got some great feedback from the critique loop. When I wrote this novel, it was over the course of four years and I can definitely tell a difference in my writing. I’ve progressed quite a bit since that first amateurish novel. There is a lot (and I mean a lot) of passive voice I didn’t realize I was doing at the time. Starting off sentences with “It was” and “There were” is a no-no and they pointed it all out to me as well as gave me suggestions on how to reword it to an active voice. And I thought I knew what passive voice was!
Just goes to show there is always something to learn from other writers. Precisely why I love conversing with other writers!
Anyhoo, got DS’s VBS picture of his class. The kids are so cute. He has a girlfriend named Savanah (that he likes to hug and hold hands with – OH BOY) and his best friend is named Payton – he’s the boy with his tongue sticking out in the picture. hehe My SIL tells me that DS’s favorite colors are orange and yellow (which I already knew) and that he’s not big into coloring, he’d rather just play. Hopefully I can find out where his friend lives so they can still have play dates in the future.
And DH comes in this afternoon, two days earlier. He couldn’t get a flight out on Friday because of Father’s Day, so he was originally going to have to fly on Saturday. Glad that he was able to get in sooner. I ordered his Father’s Day present last night and had it ship two day from UPS. He’s going to know exactly what it is since it’s coming from Tiger Direct. *frown* Ah well!
Enjoy!
