Christmas Eve

Carol of the Day: Away In A Manger
Before we get started: Check it out. Sysenlaw wrote about her love of horses (and me!) in her blog.
It’s Christmas Eve. I have one cheesecake baked - a key lime one. The caramel apple one will be baked today. Along with the beginnings of my cheesey potato bake. We’ll start with opening presents tonight, carry over into tomorrow morning and then finish up Round 3 at my mom’s. It should be good and busy these next two days. Good thing I have Monday off to rest and recoup.
Early this morning, I was sleeping like the dead and having a really interesting dream (it could be a story some day!) when at my elbow I hear a very soft, “Mom”. Ugh. My head snaps up and there’s Sweetie Boy buck naked. He tells me his clothes are wet and he needs to be wiped down. We head upstairs to his room and along the way I get he’s wet the bed. :dead: He hurries up ahead of me and I’m to the last two stairs when I slip. I fall UP the stairs and literally crash land on the second floor, carpet burning my left knee in the process.
Now, when you’re a kid, falling isn’t such a big deal. But when you’re a old person (like me), falling is the pits. It hurt like the devil
and I rolled around whimpering and clutching my knee. I got no sympathy from anyone. Ah well. I stripped the bed and put on clean sheets, made the kid get dressed, and then took everything back downstairs to start laundry. Since it was nearly seven, I figured I’d just stay up and make a pot of coffee. After all, if I went back to bed now, I’d never want to get up.
I’m off to watch the coffee brew. I need it.

What Color is Your Soul? {8 results + artsitic pics}
brought to you by Quizilla
Your Soul is Purple - Artist, dreamer, creative. You are lost in your thoughts, and have a dislike of reality (probably finding it boring). You have to remeber that every idea is based off the reality you know. Magic is everyware, you just have to see it. Thinking, and creating things from your mind, are your top priorities (not to mention what your best at). Keep at it, a little imagination can take you far.

Carol of the Day: O Holy Night
Wow – I totally didn’t blog yesterday. What’s up with that? Not that I was super busy or anything, I just never got around to it.
I baked peanut butter cookies for the office (and left some at home). But they were still not as big a hit as the fudgey brownies I made the other day. Guess I know what the favorite around the office is.
My dear sweet friend from Canada sent me a wonderful holiday package. I got it yesterday. It’s two CDs with Celtic Christmas music (LOVE!) and Tall Tales Press – the book with her short story Love Potion. The gifts are terrific! Much to the dismay of IT Guy at work, I’ve added more music to my hard drive bringing the total to well over four and a half gig. No, really.
Tomorrow the festivities begin. And should last through Sunday. I can’t believe Christmas is only two days away!
Is everyone ready for Christmas?

Carol of the Day: Carol of the Bells
Note to self: Eagle Brand Milk has a shelf-life of less than two years…
Been tagged by Marie to do the five weird random things about me. So here goes.
1. I love chunky peanut butter, but I hate nuts in my candy or my ice cream.
2. My favorite snack as a kid was Fritos and buttermilk (don’t ask).
3. I like brown gravy instead of cream on my chicken fried chicken.
4. I love to bake but never eat that stuff (okay…rarely).
(why do all of these so far revolve around food? That should be weird itself! :hiding:)
5. I’ve always wanted to go backpacking in the Amazon, even though I hate being outside, the heat, and camping.
Okay, now I’m tagging five people:
Lara
Colin
Sandy J
Voodoo
CeCe
Let’s hear your five weird things, folks.
My magic cookie bars were a success. People tell me they don’t like coconut, yet when they take a bite of these, they can’t resist. They love ‘em. They have that affect on people I suppose.
I managed to work on one scene from MAGIC yesterday. It’s still not exactly the way I want it. I just wish I could get my head into the story again. Like I used to. I guess I have too much on my mind right now to think about writing. I should just give it up until after the new year.
Last night, Sweetie Boy climbed up in my lap with his Thomas Train book. It has a clock on it and it teaches kids to tell time. So we played with the clock a little and then he asked me to read the book. Since I was half-asleep, I told him to read it. And to my surprise, he began to sound out the words on the page. The first page started with “It was a beautiful morning†and he could almost figure out the word beautiful. He was saying it, just not quite right. I was amazed. At four he can almost read! After Christmas, I think I’ll get him some of those first reader books and let him start to learn.
And after being so cute last night, this morning he looked down my shirt and told me he was “just checkingâ€. Boys. They’re all the same, aren’t they? Young or old, it doesn’t matter.
In other little boy news, we got up yesterday and he told me it was still dark outside. I agreed and then he said, “We need to go back to sleep until the sun comes up.â€
I heartily agreed. However, school and work don’t wait for the sun to come up. So it was off we went.
Hope everyone is ready for Christmas. It’s only four days away!

Carol of the Day: Silent Night
Last night I managed to bake a batch of brownies and NOT burn them.
*clap* *cheer*
I had a little helper too. Against my initial wishes, Sweetie Boy brought his chair over to the kitchen counter, stood in his chair, and helped me mix. Told me what a good mixer I was. He then licked the beaters while I got the batch into the pan. They came out great! I brought them to the office. In fact, they’re nearly gone.
Tonight – I will attempt Batch #2 of the magic cookie bars. Here’s hoping I won’t burn them this time. :dead:
I love that Christmas is on the weekend this year. That makes for a really nice holiday. No rushing around from work to home to the next party on Christmas Eve. Just taking it easy, baking, and getting ready for Christmas Day. For Eve, we’ll be at a family party and then it’s back to our house for having our family Christmas. Then Christmas Day Morning, we’ll be doing our little family Christmas, then that afternoon it’s off to my mom’s for Christmas dinner and MORE gifts. Looks like the entire family will be there. I’m looking forward to it.
After my brainstorm session with my friend on Sunday, I pulled out my notes on MAGIC and made some tweaks. I’m working on a scene that will follow up where I left up – but don’t have the in between stuff yet (Yes, I am a Scener/Pantser). I’m not quite where I want to be yet with that scene, but I’m getting there. I’m trying to decide how much information the heroine should reveal to the hero and what his deep dark secret is. Wait, that’s not entirely true. I know what his deep dark secret is, I just don’t know the WHY yet. I’m getting there.
And then I have this secondary character people are loving. He’s sort of supposed to be a bad guy, but he keeps being sympathetic to my heroine. Which surprises even me. So I think he could potentially be a dark hero in one of the future books. I’d like to at least do a trilogy, but I have ideas for a series. I’m trying to keep it simple here, though. So lots to think about. At least I’m getting some work done on MAGIC.
I’ve also been thinking about the medieval I’ve been neglecting. I still haven’t finished it – and I’m SO close to finishing it. I should get my ass in gear and finish it already.
And of course, the follow up to Talk Dirty To Me needs to be written. I have too many unfinished manuscripts.
So here’s my list of Things To Do in 2006:
1. Finish the rewrite on MAGIC
2. Finish the medieval
3. Finish the second book in the Coffee House Chronicles
4. Edit Ransom & Fortune (formerly with KIC)
5. Edit Scars of Yesterday (formerly with KIC)
It’ll be a lot of writing. But if I can hunker down and do it – I will have three complete manuscripts, possibly more if I can get the two serials edited and broken into novellas.
Okay that’s it for me. I’m off to eat more brownies!
