January 2, 2007
Sunday and Monday were spent getting the house back in shape after the holidays. I took down the tree and all the decorations and put them away for another year. I removed all the clutter from the house and it was nice to have that organized feeling to start the new year. Â
It was also nice to get the house back in order.
We had a quiet New Year’s Eve. I cooked dinner and since the baby didn’t have a nap that day, he was out by 9. Which was nice for me since I was tired. I had a glass of wine and crashed on the couch. Missed the ball drop in New York and woke up about 10 minutes until midnight. I shut everything off and just went to bed.
I’ve made no resolutions for 2007 - I never do. I don’t really set goals. I make no plans set in stone. I’ve found that when I do, they never really work out anyway, so it’s best to just take things one day at a time.
So I do - take every day as it comes. Whether it’s a good day or a bad day. I write things down in my calendar when needed. I know this month, I plan to watch the Dallas Stars practice in on the 14th. And I’m going to have dinner at The Man’s restaurant with a good friend around the 13th. And that’s about it.
It was hard taking the baby home today. I got that stabbing feeling in the middle of my chest again. So after I dropped him off, I tried not to think. I went to the grocery store and picked up some celery, put gas in the car, mailed bills at the post office. Came home and watched The English Patient and cooked a pot of potato soup and drank a glass of pinot grigio. Watched Heroes. And talked to The Man on the phone after his long day at work.
And so went the first day of 2007. Quiet. Calm. Peaceful. But still with that horrible stabbing pain in the middle of my chest. And even though he may drive me crazy at times, I find the house is too quiet without the presence of that sweet little boy. The little boy who hugs my arm so hard I can’t type. Who snuggles up with me on the courch to watch Justice League and who climbs into bed with me early in the morning.
Such is my life.
And today is back to the daily grind. Back to work. Back to immersing into the challenge of getting things done. Back to trying to write and back to critiquing a friend’s work.
So good-bye 2006 and hello 2007. I hope this year is better than the last and only half as good as the next.
