Once Upon a Dream
September 18, 2007
Do you ever have one of those dreams where you wake up and instantly reach for a pen? It’s a rare occasion when that happens to me.
Recently, I was lucky enough to have such an occurrence. It was one of those weird dreams where I woke up, shook my head (and rubbed the cobwebs out of my eyes), and thought nothing of it. But later… later, as I sat at my desk at work (because that’s where I do my best brainstorming, oddly enough), I recalled the dream.
It went something like this…
It’s another week
September 17, 2007
It astounds me how fast the weekends go. Wasn’t it just Friday like 2 minutes ago?
I can barely remember Friday… What did I do? Oh yes. I didn’t feel like cooking so it was off to McDonald’s for us. I got a grilled chicken sandwich becuase I couldn’t stand the guilt of the fried hamburger. Even though I really really wanted one. I’m feeling fat these days, though, so I skipped it. I did, however, have the fries and the Coke. Bad. And then ice cream later. Bad Again.
Saturday was the baby boy’s soccer game and then we came home and just vegged the rest of the day. Didn’t go anywhere. Didn’t do anything. We just hung out and I let him pretty much do whatever he wanted. And I had more ice cream. Bad.
He didn’t want to go to bed Saturday night. He wanted to stay up and play with his fort. So I let him. Until 10 pm when I finally made him get into bed. He was out in 2.3 seconds. I snuck (is that a word?) off to the computer and played a rousing game of Sims until the thing locked up, I got disgusted, and then just shut everything down.
I got into bed about 11:15 and was out in like 2.3 seconds. And I had weird dreams. Heard the baby coughing at about 4 am and woke up to check on him. He didn’t wake up.
I woke up about 7 and then dozed for another hour. Got up, had a cup of coffee, showered and got ready for church. The baby boy slept until after 9. He was mad because I was already up and we didn’t get our Sunday morning snuggle-time.
Then it was off to church where I went to a sort of orientation to find out a little bit more about them. Sweetie Boy went into the child care room. It was a two hour session, which flew by. Afterward, I picked up the baby boy.
“Did you have a good class, Mom?” he asked. It made me giggle. I said I did and then he asked, “Did you do good, Mom?”
HAHA It was so darn cute.
He talked me into going the “big” Wal-Mart (we have a Neighborhood Market) because he knew he could sucker me into a new toy. All I needed was chili sauce for dinner. So instead of spending $1.87 I ended up spending $9.00 on a new toy, chili sauce, and a box of Triscuits (it’s better than ice cream).
I cooked over BBQ’d chicken with homemade sauce last night and it was DELISH. Even the Sweetie Boy liked it. He said it was a keeper recipe. LOL He’s gotten to be quite the little wordsmith lately.
After dinner, was dishes, cleaning the cat box, and finishing laundry. Isn’t my life exciting? It’s my night to sort of wind down the weekend and get prepped for the week ahead. Which I totally detest but you know…ya gotta do it. It’s a living. Until something better comes along or I strike it rich, whichever comes first. haha
I did manage to forego the ice cream Sunday night…but it sure was hard to resist.
And now it’s off to work …
…even though I’m still thinking about ice cream…
SO!
September 15, 2007
The boys lost their soccer game today. But tis okay. There’s always next week!
I renewed my Home Warranty and I feel good knowing I have that protection. Now, you just go head and DIE A/C. I DARE YOU. haha
If only the home warranty covered a brand new bathroom…
Anyway… I decided to install The Sims game tonight and me and the boy had a blast playing it. Well, mostly HE played. And he killed poor Mortimer in a house fire. The Grim Reaper showed up and put Mortimer in an urn. He is survived by wife Bella and oh I can’t think of his kid’s name. They would stand at the urn and weep. It kinda cracks me up now that I think of it.
AND!
I changed my MySpace layout. It’s way sexier than it was before.
You can check that out here!
Happy Saturday!
Please note: I am not conceited
September 14, 2007
So. We’re doing this project at work that’s part of our annual holiday awards banquet and the boss asked me to dig out some stuff I had and bring it. Which is totally cool with me because this is something I’m so all about.
Anyway.
We were also talking about Glamour Shots. Remember that place? I had some done way back a long time ago. I think I was 18 or 19 at the time. So I’ve been on the search for the proofs I had. I can’t find them anywhere. My last ditch effort was to look in the box marked “high school stuff”.
After putting the baby boy to bed, I dug it out. It was on the very bottom of the closet in the office. I had to move everything out just to get to it. So I open up the box and start to go through things.
Talk about a walk down memory lane!
I started looking through my senior book. It has pages where you fill out information about the time. Gas was - get this - 0.89 cents a gallon. CAN YOU IMAGINE? And at the time I drove a Geo Metro (stop laughing) and it only cost me like $6.00 to fill up. Those were the days.
Then I found the page that lists all the “Most likely to succeed” BS. There was “Best dressed” and “Wittiest” and stuff like that. Oddly, I wrote my name down for the Best Dressed, Wittiest, and some other things.
And then at the bottom of the page, I wrote: Please note: I am not conceited.
Yeah, okay. I see things haven’t changed much.
I also discovered, with some horror, that I…was a total nerd. TOTAL.
I found all my old Star Trek books. The Star Trek Compendium with almost the entire original cast’s autographs. That’s because, you see, I went to all the conventions. I saved newspaper clippings about the conventions. I even have a copy of the script from Star Trek: The Next Generation’s pilot episode. Hello. Nerdom.
I also found my Star Wars Storybook - the one I got for Christmas in 1978. Yeah, that’s because Star Wars was still in the theater by Christmas 1978, even though the release was May 1977. Don’t ask me how I remember that. I just do. That’s because, back then, there was no such thing as VCRs and DVDs. It makes me feel…old. My kid actually asked me what a cassette tape was.
I also found the “Collector’s Edition” of the magazine Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as well as Return of the Jedi.
And I somehow managed to keep every program and invitation of every dance recital I ever did. From 1980.
See? I told you I was a nerd.
It was kinda neat to see all my old pictures from my senior year of high school though. It was a total walk down memor lane.
Never did find those Glamour Shots though. I’m thinking they must be long gone by now. I mean, after all…if I can keep up with stuff from frigging 1980, you’d think I’d still have the sheet of proofs from 1991. Right?
Beat
September 13, 2007
Wednesday nearly killed me.
It didn’t start off as a great day and quickly went downhill from there. By the time 4:30 rolled around, I was mentally drained.
And then it was a mad dash to get from the office to pick up the kiddo to soccer practice and back home again. Once we got home, he watched a little TV and then it was bath and reading time. Got him in bed by 9 and by then I was ready to drop.
I’ve been slowly working on MAGIC. Just a bit here and there while I decide what the next order of edits is going to be. (And yes, Lara, Fyren will get “some action” - don’t worry. I have plans for a book for him. hehe)
Fyren is the bad guy turned good. He’s a secondary character that has just sort of taken over. He keeps insisting he’s not all that bad and he knows stuff he shouldn’t. I think he’s a double agent or something. I haven’t quite figured him out yet. I don’t think he can be the hero, not of this book anyway. And in the original draft, I killed him off. Now he’s insisting he lives and he gets his own story.
Don’t you just love when characters take on a life of their own?
Anyway. I’m hoping Thursday will be a better day than Wednesday. I foresee lots of flats in my future.
That and ab crunches… I’m starting to feel fat again.

Cool Front!
September 11, 2007
The cool front came through last night and it’s glorious outside. I’m opening the windows tonight and enjoying the fresh air!
Not much else to report. I’m just working on a couple of projects at the moment. Nothing of note. Trying to get something finished and submitted. I really need to sit down and do a couple of outlines.
I have to go to the school tonight for “Curriculum Night” to see what the year brings for the baby boy.
Oh and, if you’re interested… go read Amie’s post over at Chicas. I was cracking up!
Old Age
September 10, 2007
I tell you…it sucks to get old. It really does. I still have that pain in the neck from nearly a week ago when I slept wrong. It’s just sore now and getting better…but it still hurts. And my lower back hurts nearly all the time. What is UP with that?
Saturday night I spent the evening with my girlfriends laughing and drinking and eating pizza and creating MySpace pages. hehehe I updated mine! You can see the sexy new look here.
I finished my edits this weekend! YAY! But I still have some things to mull over before I send them back and I have over a week so… I’m going to do just that.
I still need to work on TAKE ME I’M YOURS this week, too. I’ve got to write better and faster!!
Had a pretty uneventful weekend. I think the highlight of it was visiting with the girlfriends and then updating my MySpace page. hahaha How sad is that?
Oh…I did get sunburned from the soccer game. I need to be more prepared next week. I must wear a hat and sunscreen!
We’re supposed to get a cool front this week - I’m so excited. I hope it really does get as cool as they say. I can sleep with my windows open, which is always nice. I need to get two more window screens made for the front of the house. I’m going to have to budget that in.
And can we really be on Monday again? Dayum. Oh well. Another week - another dollar! (the price of inflation…haha)
Happy Monday ya’ll!
Soccer Game - Update
September 8, 2007
We won! We beat the other team (who were all girls) 5-1. Go Falcons!
But I was dripping sweat by the time the game was over and those kids were exhausted. AWW. They played hard and great, though.
And just added two more pages of new material to NICE GIRLS DO. Back to EditLand!
