Fall is finally here!
October 16, 2007
October is my favorite month. The weather changes, the State Fair is open, you get to sleep with the windows open, there are pumpkins on everyone’s doorstep… there’s this crisp feeling to the air. It’s lovely.
There was a torrential downpour yesterday morning when I left for work. When I walked out into the garage and opened the door, I noticed something on the floor. It looked like a cluster of damp leaves. I was about to nudge it all outside when it moved! Turns out it was a froggie. It hopped out when the garage door opened. Have no idea how long it’s been in there. Anyway, it rained so hard I could hardly see and it took a while to get to work. It cleared up later on, though, and it was overcast but the weather was great. Cool and crisp. I walked down to Starbucks in the afternoon and enjoyed the hell out of it.
This morning, it was so foggy you couldn’t hardly see in front of you. That kind of thick pea soup fog. Plus it was still dark when I drove in so it was hard to see. But the weather is still just great.
I slept with the window open last night and listened to the crickets chirp until nearly 11. When the alarm went off this morning (much to my dismay) there were no more crickets and it made me wonder just when they stop singing.
In other news… I got a consolidation loan! I can pay off three major credit cards. I’m so relieved. I’ve decided to tighten the belt and really buckle down and get myself out of debt. It’s going to be hard, but I’m going to do it if it kills me. May take a while but that’s cool. I can do it. I WILL do it. I don’t want to have credit card debt forever. AND…I will not be derailed this time.
Things are looking up.
I’m still thinking about the writing but I’m getting closer to a final decision. I’m hoping to hear back from the agent on my submission but it could be a while. In the meantime, I’m going to commit to finishing Take Me I’m Yours. I’ve also decided to turn the dragon story in to YA. It fits perfectly with that genre I think. Plus, the characters just don’t seem to want to fall in love.
Today I’m off to the bank and post office. Two of my least favorite errands. Blah!
Another weekend gone
October 15, 2007
I can’t believe how fast Mondays come. It seems like you blink and the weekend is gone.
Saturday my baby boy scored his first goal! It was late in the 4th quarter and he was running as hard as he could down field (and he was tired too - those boys get worn out before the end of the game) and he kicked that ball and it was like in slow motion. We all held our breath and watched as it rolled over the goal line. I will never forget that big grin on his little face.
Then that afternoon I started working on the book and my friend dropped by for a quick visit. Well, that quick visit turned into a trip to the mall. It wasn’t all for nought, though. I found a fabulous party dress for my holiday banquet! It’s lovely, too. And just perfect. AND! On sale. I got it for under $100 which was just what I wanted to spend.
After a two hour marathon at the mall and talking our heads off, she dropped me off. My wallet was certainly a little lighter but that’s okay. I got the perfect dress.
I finished the book Saturday night and then treated myself to a couple of movies for finishing. I headed off to bed pretty early but had a hard time sleeping. I’ve got a lot on my mind lately and I’m sort of grappling with an issue.
Anyway…went to church on Sunday and saw the boss there. I got to meet her in-laws and they are just the sweetest people ever. After church, I came home and was just a vegetable the rest of the day. I had a date with my DVR and caught up on all my shows.
The weather has been really nice lately but I do find I have to turn the air on late in the afternoon. It just gets too stuffy in here without it. But when the sun goes down, I can shut it off and open up the house again. I so love having the windows and doors open. I love the fresh air inside the house. It’s wonderful.
Not much else to report…other than I sent off a submission to an agent… we’ll see how that turns out. I’m crossing my fingers!
SCORE!
October 13, 2007
My baby boy scored a goal today in his soccer game! They won, too! He played very hard and I’m so proud of him. He looked right at me and grinned from ear to ear when he scored. It’s a beautiful day. I’m stuck in side but that’s okay. Got the windows and doors open and the fans on. I love this weather!
And now I’m off to finish my edits.

I know. I KNOW! I’m ignoring the blog. I have every intention of blogging this weekend, though, AND updating my website. So… stay tuned. ![]()

Turmoil
October 9, 2007
Okay. So. I’ve had a bit of romantic turmoil in my life lately which is really no big deal. I have come to a decision - albeit a painful one. Sometimes, there comes a time where you just have to let go. Everything will be okay because, ultimately, it’s the right thing to do.
In other news… My Sweetie Boy and I have been attending church regularly. My boss said to me today that I looked…happy. And I gotta say I do feel more at peace with myself. I’m starting to feel happy about things again. And it has nothing to do with finally having the perfect job/house/relationship. Plus, I can tell the regular attendance to church is making an impact on him and it makes me very happy. I’m glad to see it. He needs the struture and stability as much as I do.
More other news… my editor is quite ill and I’m worried about her. I hope she makes a full recovery and is okay. I did get Round 2 of edits today so I’ll be working on those very soon and getting the done ASAP. Especially since the book publishes November 13. haha
And in yet more other news… I have officially hit the rock-bottom writing slump. I know I know. I’ve had it before. And I will probably have it again. I realized the other day I hadn’t written in - oh - a month or so. And you know what? It’s not bothering me. This is a very sad state of affairs. I need to find my way out and SOON.
But I also discovered something else about my writing. I truly and honestly thing writing hot is not what I really in my heart want to write. Okay, so it sells and it makes me money. That’s all fine and good. I think what I really and truly in my heart want to write is… Young Adult. (Lara, I can hear you gasping from here - we’ll talk!) And not just any YA. Fantasy YA. Can you say impossible market?
I’m still exploring this new idea so stay tuned. I could change my mind in 2.3 seconds and be back to writing my romance books. But in the meantime, I need to take a hiatus. I need to figure out what I’m doing to do. And I’m not going to feel guilty for not writing. I just know this is not working for me now and I have to figure out what will.
That all being said - I have tickets to Loreena McKennitt tonight and my date is an unlikely person. I’m very excited. And not just about the concert.
Perhaps after hearing some live, wonderful Celtic music I will be inspired again. In the meantime…
Mik out.
I know I know

I haven’t blogged. But I will. I promise!
I survived the heat wave of 1980
October 4, 2007
Hey I’m blogging at Chicas today with 13 Things on my DVR. Stop by!
When I was a kid, I seriously had a t-shirt that said that - I survived the heat wave of 1980. It had a picture of the state of Texas and all the record breaking temps on it. It was 115 in some places. We could literally fry an egg on the sidewalk. It was so hot, you just didn’t go outside. It was so hot, you couldn’t get in the car and back then, they all had those vinyl seats. It was like sitting on a hot plate. For real. I was 8 that year. (Yeah, so you totally know how old I am but oh well!)
I don’t know what made me think of that. The shirt was baby blue and the writing on it was black. Funny how you can remember minute details like that.
Oh and before I forget - HOCKEY IS BACK!! And the Stars have a new jersey this year. They are so awesomey awesomeness. The jerseys I mean. Even though the actual Stars are too. haha
I do have to lodge a complaint though with the Versus station. They kept showing the Wings and Ducks in OT when the Stars were supposed to start at 8:30. We came into the game nearly 10 minutes late. Those effers.
I did give away all my copies of the new book. However - if you didn’t win - stay tuned. There will be another chance! Friday will be Free Book Friday with a little contest that will be so easy you can do it in your sleep. Well, not really since you’ll have to be awake to post. LOL But you know what I mean.
Work has been super busy and super stressful these last few days. I don’t know which way is up. I was so tired yesterday after getting home, I fainted from exhaustion at about 9:30. I had residual tired Wednesday morning. And it’s one of my busiest evenings.
The baby had soccer practice and then after we got home and he watched Kid Nation and then I put him in the tub. He’s actually getting big enough to wash himself. I, however, still have to wash his hair. We read a few chapters of his Magic Tree House book he got from the library at school and then he hit the sack. He was out moments later.
And I got to sit on the couch and in bliss and watch hockey. I do so love the Stars.
But now it’s time for work. So have a happy Thursday, ya’ll!
