Oof

November 16, 2007

I’m so glad it’s Friday I could cry.

For the first time in a very long time, I had to call in sick to work on Wednesday. I have been fighting this upper respiratory thing for a couple of days but if finally took its toll on me. I doped myself up and laid on the couch and watched Rear Window with James Stewart and Grace Kelly. Then I went and crawled in bed and slept for about three hours. I work up at 4 still groggy and feeling lethargic.

I decided it was the allergy medication making me feel that way so I stopped taking it. By Thursday afternoon, I felt nearly normal. I’m still coughing, though not nearly as bad, and have daily headaches. The headaches are from (a) coughing too much and (b) sinus pressure. It sucks, actually.

So I didn’t get any words in on Wednesay and Thursday was a game of catch-up at work. I waded through the email and got caught up. The banquet is nearing and we have a ton of stuff to do still. I have lots and lots of printing to get done for certificates and name tags and what not. I started setting up the certificates today.

Anyway, that’s boring and enough of that.

After I picked up the Sweetie Boy on Thursday, we headed to the store so I could pick up some of the items I needed to make my pumpkin bars for the Thanksgiving potluck at work. The recipe is very easy and they came out so yummy. I even made the icing.

The recipe says to wait until completely cooled to cut and put on the icing. Of course, I couldn’t wait that long. They were almost cooled when I cut them into squares and put the cream cheese icing on them. They still fell apart somewhat as I iced them. Oh well. There was one casualty for sure. And besides, I had to test them to make sure they were fit to take to the office. :)

I’m taking them to my mom’s of Thanksgiving as well because they are super easy to make. Besides, we have way too many pies and stuff for dessert. This will be something different since it’s sort of a cake.

I did get my website updated the other day. Oh and I’m shopping around for a new blog template to try out. I’m thinking I need a facelift. What do you think?

Release Day!

November 13, 2007

nicegirls_lrg.jpgToday’s the day!! It’s Release Day!

Nice Girls Do, the fun erotic romp, hits the e-shelves today over at Samhain Publishing. Click here to go to my author page at their website and then just click the book cover that looks just like the one at the left.

I’m very excited about this book. It’s the second installment in the Coffee House Chronicles (after Talk Dirty To Me) and stars Mark and Cara. They were really fun to write and I enjoyed spending time with them at The Bitter End Coffee House.

Here’s a quick blurb about the book:
Even nice girls can be bad…

Cara Davis wants to be a nice girl. She really does. So she quits her job at the strip club and takes on a job at The Bitter End coffee shop. She even dates the owner’s very nice—and nice looking—son David.

Mark Sawyer used to be bad, but now he’s mended his ways. He comes to The Bitter End to make amends with his mother, but his attempt is rebuffed by both her and his baby brother.

Worse, David is dating the newest hire, a buxom blonde Mark is sure he’s seen somewhere before. He sets his sights on Cara with every intention of stealing her away. Sometimes it’s good to be bad, and who said turning over a new leaf was such a good idea, anyway?

With the coffee house in danger of closing its doors forever, Cara and Mark team up to save the day. The only problem is, Cara can’t stop herself from falling in love with the bad boy. And damn it, she’s tried so hard to be good!

Like good coffee, the longer Mark and Cara’s desire brews, the stronger it gets. And once their passion percolates, there’s sure to be plenty of steam…

Sound good? ;) If that’s not enough for you, then check out this quickie excerpt that will leave you panting for more:

A few words

November 12, 2007

Despite the super busy weekend, I did manage to get about 1000 words in. You’ll not the counter changed and moved from Friday. It’s still very slow going, but at least I’m writing almost every day. Goal: write every day and get in at least 2000 words. I’m still trying to make that goal.

Friday was a nice restful evening. I stayed home and did NOTHING. I knew Saturday and Sunday would be insane. And I was right.

Woke up Saturday with congestion and a major headache. I think the allergy meds are finally starting to kick in. Got up pretty early and started laundry and killed three red wasps (my house seems to be invaded!). Then it was off to soccer where the boys won easily against the girls. Then Sweetie Boy came home with me and we had lunch and ran a few errands. We hung around the house until it was time for his birthday party.

Took him to the party and he said he didn’t want me to stay which was great. I ran more errands and then went home and sat down and relaxed until time to get him. Got there to pick him up and the party was running long. Didn’t get home until after seven and I was beat. Then it was tub time and then bedtime for the boy. I passed out on the couch and got up around midnight and stumbled to bed.

Woke up at 6-freaking-30 Sunday morning coughing my head off. This congestion is really awful first thing in the morning. It’s starting to break up and makes me miserable. I’m still coughing my head off this morning.

I cooked a breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast and then it was off to church. Got home and had a quick lunch and then it was off to the final soccer game of the season. They played a really hard team and lost but the boys played hard, fair and had fun. Then it was back home for a bit and THEN back to the field for the year-end party. The boys played hard on the playground and then they got their trophies and a sack of goodies. Got home about 5:30.

Cooked dinner. Watched Amazing Race and then I turned everything off and climbed in bed at 8:00. The baby boy called me shortly after and I could tell he was worn out.

I dusted off the laptop, sat in bed and wrote for an hour. I finished a chapter so it was good progress. I was out by 9:30.

Even though I still feel tired, I do feel better than I did on Friday. I still have some congestion and of course this nasty cough but other than that, I’m good. At least it hasn’t gone into a sinus infection. Then I’d be really ticked.

This is going to be another busy week. We have our potluck Thanksgiving luncheon at the office on Friday. I’ve decided not to make a cheesecake and make pumpkin bars instead. I’m sure they’ll be terribly disappointed. But since there’s going to be a bunch of different pies there, I decided something easy and something simple would be best.

I can’t believe next week is Thanksgiving!

It’s Allergies

November 9, 2007

OMG…it SUCKS so bad, too.

However… I broke the 10k mark on NaNo! YEAH! I’m making progress after all. Even through the haze of drugs and congestion. Go ME!

Thursday was terribly busy. I ran all day long. This weekend I will be running all weekend long.

So tonight…it’s all about me, the couch, the DVR and a cup of Hawaiian freshly ground coffee. MmMmMMmMMmmMmm

Results Day 5

November 6, 2007

nano_participant_icon_large.gifThanks for all the words of encouragement! I need it.

I did manage to get some words out on Day 5 (but nothing during the weekend). I think I’m fighting a cold. I SO do not have time to be sick, dammit.

Anyway - I’ve made it just over 7,000 words. I got in about 700 words last night. I still have a loooooooong way to go but after some brainstorming with my friends, I had a mini-breakthrough on Friday and then again on Monday. I think I actually have a plot.

Yes, I am a true Pantser. I’ve tried and tried to plot and I just can’t do it. It’s not my thing. I think I feel too constrained or something. I don’t know. The point is - at least I’m writing again. It feels good to flex the creative muscle and be able to write uninterrupted.

I think I really know who my hero and heroine are. His day job is in the website industry - it’s his bread and butter and it’s a rather shady website he runs. But it makes him the bucks so he can do what he really loves - painting. So he’s very creative. Sort of brooding, sexy and somewhat reserved to those on the outside. And very Beta male - so different for me! I usually write Alpha males all the way. My heroine is very down to earth but has a cool exterior. Not many can break through the ice and get to her core, but when they do it’s all worth it in the end.

I’m trying to work out the whole theme to be about the masks people hide behind, concealing their true selves except to the people they really love. We’ll see if I can pull it off. ;)

Here’s hoping this cold GOES AWAY. I’m so not wanting to feel crappy but it may be inevitable.

Keep those cheers coming! hehe
