I hate Word
January 7, 2008
So. I’m working on the book Sunday evening and I’m always sure to save quite frequently becauseI know how these computers are. They are temperamental and unpredictable.
But something weird happened to my Word document and I lost all - and I do mean ALL - of my formatting for my manuscript. I was TICKED. For some reason or another, the damn thing wouldn’t justify it the way I wanted and it wouldn’t put the half inch indent at the beginning of each line. I had to go through every single paragraph and delete the paragraph marker and put in a new one. On all 127 pages.
KILL.ME.
It was an hour of wasted time. Plus, I lost all the italics throughout which mean I had to go through and find where it was supposed to be. Luckily, I had a back-up copy from a few days ago, just nothing with the new material. I could, at least, get the ital back.
It was definitely an I HATE WORD moment.
At least all is well now.
I didn’t get any writing done on Saturday. Instead, I did lots of paperwork and updating of websites that needed to be done. I did, however, get some words in on Sunday. Quite a few. But I’m sort of stuck at the moment in the story so I need to let it germinate and get back to it tonight.
I did a whole lot of nothing on Sunday. I did end up at SuperTarget at one point, though. I ended up buying the new Blade Runner DVD and, since my curling iron died, a new one of those too. It was an expensive trip for two items.
After I got home, I sat and watched the theatrical release of Blade Runner (it’s a 4-disc set that has about four different versions). I totally love this movie. I remember when it was really popular (back in the 80s!). One of my friends and I used to write fanfic of the movie. I remember writing a story about Deckard before he became an ex-cop (when the movie takes place). Harrison Ford was so hot in that movie. Too bad he hasn’t aged so well. Poor Harry.
Somehow, writing back then was a lot easier. I guess because I didn’t know the rules and I didn’t care. And I just wrote whatever I wanted.
Oh yeah, I also did laundry on Sunday. Excitement unconfined.
One other thing I did do on Sunday - I worked out. I haven’t done that in a while but I was feeling like I needed to. So I did my 60 minute toning work-out and I felt loads better afterwards. I also went and got some WD-40 for my garage door. It closes now, but it’s still “sick” and needs to have some kinks worked out. It still wobbles when it goes down. GRR
I think I’m going to have a hard time with this week - first full week back to the grind after the holidays. The only good thing about this week is that I get paid on Friday. Oh and I get my kid for the weekend. That’s definitely a plus.
Well it’s off to work. I’m in desperate need of some coffee…
