Well, it’s done. I did it. I polished up my 20 pages and submitted them off to the YA/Fantasy contest. Now it’s in the judges’ hands and I can only hope for the best. It would be nice to place but I’m not going to bank on it. Don’t want to be disappointed in the end, you know. As long as I get decent feedback, that’s all I care about.
But, seriously, though… in reading over these 20 pages…I have to say this is probably some of the best writing I’ve done in a long time. Is that bad to toot one’s own horn? Maybe I should put it this way… the writing is loads better than the original, craptastic version. Of course, back then, I really didn’t know what the bloody hell I was doing. Not that I do now, especially in the realm of fantasy. But I feel more confident than I did when I first attempted to write this book. I like the characters a lot more and I like the direction it’s going. And I REALLY like the new opening way better than the original version.
So although I didn’t make any progress to speak of, I DID make progress. I released my baby into the wild with the best 20 pages I could ever produce. Wish me luck.
Now here comes the part I detest…Waiting!
Happy hump day!
