When I Suck Becomes I Can

Monday, May 11th, 2009

The Deep Edits class is…hard. I have a lot of “I suck” moments. I look back at my work and I think it’s not good enough. It’ll never be good enough. I read the lecture packets and I think it’s not good enough. It’ll never be good enough. It’s the kind of class that makes you re-evalute your writing in a way you never even thought of. Dreamed of. It’s the kind of class that makes you delve deeper into your skills, push yourself to the limits, hone your craft better than you ever have.

It’s hard work. But I’m learning and I think I’m getting better. I’m approaching the “I can” phase but I still have a long way to go. A very long way to go.

Weekend was okay. Didn’t do much of anything. I took the kiddo for a hair cut on Saturday. I guess that was my Mother’s Day present to myself. ;) He did give me a Barnes & Noble gift card which is always appreciated. I’m sure I can spend it on something in the store.

Sunday, the kiddo was up at 7 am. He watched cartoons while I slept in until about 8:30. Woke up with massive allergies. Not fun. When I finally got up, I cooked breakfast, cleaned house, did laundry. Not exactly an easy Mother’s Day but someone had to get it all done. I made dinner in the crock pot which at least made that easy. I cleaned the litter box. One of my least favorite jobs. I shredded paper. I got organized for the luncheon on Saturday. We were lucky in that we had great final round judges who got their entry rankings back super fast. I love that. Wrote all the checks to the winners.

Took a nap. :)

Man came over later and hung out. By the time the kiddo went to bed, we both went to our respective corners of the couch and read. He’s reading my book. It’s kinda weird to see him reading it. I read through the lecture packets to try and get caught up.

Tonight is the very last soccer game of the season. It’s a make up game for the rain out we had a few weeks ago. I hate to say it, but I’m kinda of relieved to have my Saturdays back. Although, on the downside, soccer practice is when I did some of my best writing (uninterrupted!).

Now I need to go register for my editor/agent appointment at Nationals before they’re all gone. Wish me luck on that!

Have a happy Monday. If you can. ;)
