This week, I’m off to RomCon!

This is the first time I’ve attending the event so I have no idea what to expect. I’ve been preparing like a madwoman these last few days. I got together some great swag to take plus I have some books to give away for the Slayers game I’ll be playing with fellow princess, Karilyn Bentley.

My biggest dilemma is how to get all my swag on the plan. Yeah, um, poor planning on my part. I have 3 thumb drives, 7 books and a box full of stuff. I’m thinking of stashing it all in my carry-on. I’ve also decided that I will NOT be taking a laptop. First time ever for that. I don’t want the hassle of carrying it and I don’t think I’ll use it much since I have the iPhone.

You guys be good while I’m gone

I’ve been on a mission – to learn how to use my fancy new Canon T3 Rebel. So far, I have learned how to take some decent pictures. I’ve dragged the husband and kid around to different parks and a local lake just to snap some photos.

In one of my weekend quests, I thought I wanted a telephoto lens. Because I want to take pictures of birdies. Um, the lens I want is $650. Won’t be getting THAT any time soon. However, I did purchase some filters. I got a UV filter and a star filter and they are both very cool. The star filter does a really cool thing when you take pictures at night. You’ll see my “experiment” with the last picture below (those are the lanterns we have in the front garden – I love them!). I’m not going to win any awards or anything but I do enjoy snapping the pictures. Plus it gets me out of the house and away from this blasted computer.

“Ha! Found it!”

A beam of light snapped on and he waved it around the room. She could see the layers of dust covering all the medical supplies.

“Hold this,” he said, waving her inside. He put the flashlight in her hand.

She stepped closer to him as he rummaged through metal shelves to find packages of bandages. He shoved those toward her too.

“Help me,” he said and turned his back to her.

“This is silly. Why don’t you let me—?”

“No. This way or not at all.”

She huffed her annoyance. Tucking the flashlight under her armpit, she knelt to get eye level with his wounded leg. The injury was in the middle of his thigh. She was entirely too close to his perfectly round ass for comfort but if he wasn’t going to let her help, she had no other option.

“I need antiseptic,” she said.

“No time for that,” he grit out. “Just cover it.”

Her hands were dusty and dirty and she had severe reservations about putting a gauze bandage on him. But if that’s what he wanted, that’s what she’d do. She tore open one of the packages with her teeth and spit out the paper. Eyeing the wound, she realized his pants were in the way.

Great.

“Can you, ah, take off your pants?”

“My pants?”

“The material is in the way.”

“Oh. Right.”

He unzipped quickly followed by the swish of material as he shoved down his pants. And, oh, god, he wasn’t wearing any underwear.

Before she could react, his lips brushed hers, tasting her. He paused and their gazes locked, the gold-rims in his hazel eyes expanding with his desire. She didn’t stop him. His head dipped again, slowly, and his lips touched hers. Gently at first, barely making contact. Her mouth parted ever so slightly and his lips melded with hers, their breath mingling. Her heart rumbling around her chest as though in a hollow drum.

And despite her earlier anger at him, the charred emotions scattered, a thousand pieces fluttering to her feet. Desire and want and need replaced her rage and anger and fury.

Her hands flattened against his chest, feeling the thick muscles and his heart pounding beneath the rough material. In that moment, everything around them disappeared and the only thing that mattered was Cassius. Nothing and no one else, not the Emperor and his cursed Empire, not Valerius, not the red-cloaked messenger who called her to the Games. Her knees threatened to buckle. Good thing the wall still held her up on her feet.

He slid an arm around Elena’s waist, pulling her closer, while the other cupped the back of her head, cradling her. Cassius deepened the kiss, making her catch her breath. And there they stood, two wounded souls taking comfort in each other’s arms. Time stood still.

He pressed against her and she could feel the lean muscles, the hard lines of his body. Heat radiated from his skin through her fingertips, washing over her from the roots of her hair to the tips of her toes, enveloping her completely.

Cassius released her quickly then, as though he ripped a warm blanket from her limbs and left her empty and cold. Her lips still throbbed with the aftermath of his and she resisted the urge to reach up and brush her fingertips over them. Her body still pulsed with his warmth and she shoved aside the desire that wanted to swarm through her. She couldn’t allow the pleasure.

Elena blinked, trying to focus and forget the kiss. Not so easy, she knew. He dragged his hand through his thick black hair. She heard him huff out a long shuddering breath before clearing his throat.

Thought it would be fun to feature a movie trailer today. I’m looking forward to this one! I mean, how could you go wrong with Russell Crowe and Henry Cavill?
