Blurb:

Armageddon is coming and it’s up to me to stop the Four Horsemen and their heavenly army of angels. Unfortunately, one of the Horsemen happens to be my rock star boyfriend, Radison Beaumont. At least that’s what his ex-fiancée, Parker Burkett, claims.

Parker wants revenge on me for stealing Rad and she’s working with my archenemy, Queen Maria, a succubus who wants me back in her court of supernaturals. The only way I can stop them and the coming biblical apocalypse is to recruit an army – an army led by the king of hell.

Lucifer’s not about to help without getting something in return, and following anyone’s orders – even his – is not my style. I’m turning my inner demon loose on Parker, Maria, and the Horsemen – and saving the humans I love at the same time.

Did you miss the other two in the series? Check them out!

Inkwell Guest: Misty Evans on Ghosts

Hi, all!

Welcome to Day 4 of the birthday bash! Today I’m giving away a copy of my time-travel adventure, A Bend In Time, to one lucky commenter on today’s guest post.

Today I’m super pleased to have not only a terrific writer here but a good friend and critique partner, Misty Evans. She’s got a new book out, in case you’re wondering. And I can tell you it’s a fantastic read. It’s the second book in her Lost Worlds series. She’s here to talk about that and ghosts, so I hope you’ll stick around and post a comment. She’s also giving away a copy of her latest, so be sure and answer the question at the bottom of the post! If you don’t see your comment right away, fear not. I will release them from moderation as soon as I can.

Take it away, Misty!

I’m a big fan of ghost stories and movies. In my new release, Soul Protector, my heroine is a ghost whisperer. While researching real life ghost whisperers, I came across a lot of information on Mary Ann Winkowski. Mary Ann is the real life inspiration for the TV show “Ghost Whisperer”, the author of “When Ghosts Speak” and the co-author of “The Ice Cradle” and “The Book of Illumination.” She has worked with federal agencies as a paranormal investigator and even has a cookbook of ghostly recipes.

She’s a fascinating lady. In particular, I found an article she did for NextMovie.com pretty cool. The article is all about which movies get it right when it comes to earthbound spirits. You can read the full article here.

My favorite ghost movies are:

The Sixth Sense

Field of Dreams

Ghost

All three made Mary Ann’s list of “Close But Not Quite”. According to her, the two movies that were “Dead On” (pun intended, I think) were Stir of Echoes and Witchboard. I’ve never seen either movie, but I’m putting them both in my Netflix cart (for research purposes, of course!).

What is your favorite ghost movie? I’m giving one commenter a free copy of SOUL PROTECTOR or any of my backlist.

Soul Protector, Lost Worlds Series, Book 2

The secret to redemption lies in their souls.

Dr. Nathan Hunter has forty-eight hours to save his job and find the missing Salt Coast Clan, a lost civilization locals believe is a myth. When ancient human remains turn up at the site of a new state water project along the Oregon Coast, he’s sure the lost tribe is real. Before he can examine the bones, however, a pretty female lawyer gets an injunction to stop him.

Nila Willopah sees ghosts. After failing to help a young boy cross over to the afterlife seven years ago, she hung up her shaman’s cape, left her family, and went to college to pursue a law degree. Three days before the bar exam, she’s summoned home by her grandfather to defend a sacred burial ground from a billion dollar state water project.

Although her soul is in danger from the spirits unearthed at the site, Nila is the one person who can stop the project and protect her ancestors’ last resting place from Dr. Hunter. She’s also the only one who can help the angry spirits cross over.

Nila suspects the sexy anthropologist is hiding a dark secret behind his clear blue eyes and skilled hands. A secret she wants nothing to do with. But when one of the ghosts latches onto his soul, Nila must set aside her fears and suspicions and once again enter the world of spirit communication to protect him.

Even if saving his soul means sacrificing her own.

Inkwell Guest: Misty Evans

It’s Wednesday! In case you’re wondering how my vacation is going - today is my wedding day! With just over a week to go until Christmas, Misty Evans is here to talk about her paranormal release, Jingle Hells. Just in time for the holidays!

Do you love holiday stories? I do. When we read about a character’s crazy holiday shenanigans, we can relate. We connect with them. The stress and craziness of the holidays in real life is humorous and engaging in fiction.

While writing JINGLE HELLS, the sequel to WITCHES ANONYMOUS, my light paranormal romance about a bad witch trying to go good, the timeline fell over Christmas. I don’t usually incorporate holidays into my stories, but this time, I couldn’t resist.

Amy, my main character has never celebrated Christmas, but this year, her boyfriend Adam, who just happens to be THE Adam (as in the original Adam who’s back on Earth for a redo) does. So on top of trying to complete Step 2 of WA, solving her latest biblical mystery, and running her ice cream shop, she has to become Santa to Adam. The tagline for the book is: “Christmas is going to be hell this year” and that sums it up exactly!

I had a lot of fun writing this sequel, the holiday element adding a nice bonus to the story and an extra layer of fun for me. For today’s blog, I’m including an excerpt and giving away a copy of JINGLE HELLS to one lucky commenter. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

JINGLE HELLS by Misty Evans

Excerpt — On the First Day of Christmas

My name is Amy Atwood and I slept with the Devil.

Literally.

Two days before winter solstice, Christmas lights blinked red and green on the snow-covered sidewalks of my hometown of Eden. Bing Crosby’s voice assured us he’d be home for Christmas. The air was brimming with anticipation.

Anticipation and, at least for me, lust. Deep yearning drove me to stare into the brooding, sexy-as-hell eyes of the Devil through the plate glass door of my ice cream shop. His evil energy beckoned to me like the Dove chocolate stored in the pocket of my orange and black, anti-Christmas apron. Blazing heat rose in my cheeks and spread through my veins, rich, tantalizing and blissfully delicious. A tiny wisp of magic unfurled in my chest, reaching for him.

Lucifer’s magic seized on it. One corner of his mouth rose in a familiar, cocky grin. “Let me in, witch.”

With every ounce of willpower I could summon, I shook my head. “I’m not a witch anymore. And we’re closed.”

“It’s seven o’clock. You don’t close ’til ten.”

“Witches Anonymous meeting here tonight.” I flipped the sign on the door and tapped it for good measure. “Now go away.”

Drawing back my disobedient magic, I forced my hand to turn the key in the lock. The sound of the deadbolt snapping into place broke the enchantment Luc had on me. My body moaned in response. It wasn’t going to rock around the Christmas tree with him that night.

One thing about the Devil, he’s persistent. Luc could have shattered the glass or flipped the lock open without moving a muscle. Instead, as I turned my back on him, he invaded my personal space in a much less direct but equally strategic way. His voice now registered in my head, tingling the nerves at the base of my skull as if he were breathing on my bare neck. I know Adam left you.

“He didn’t leave…” I stopped myself from finishing. Adam, my hunky heaven-sent boyfriend, had left me, but not the way Luc made it sound.

I glanced at Keisha, the shop’s manager and my best friend, who was leaning against the stainless steel sink behind the counter. She was there the day I met Luc in Paris, at the base of the Venus di Milo, and she knew our torrid history together. Knew how he’d broken my heart. Still, her attention was riveted on him, her mouth open and her eyes glazed with merry lust.

Another tingling sensation lifted the hairs on the back of my neck. He’s not coming back to you.

I whirled around and pinned Luc with the snake-eye look I practiced in the mirror for just such occasions. Get out of my head. Get out of my life.

For a single heartbeat he tried to enchant me again, but I can be as persistent and stubborn as he is. I braced the wall I’d built around my magic and stood my ground.

His face hardened, his eyes went cold, flat. My pulse kicked in reflexive fear, but in the next second, he shimmered out of sight without a sound.

Yep, Christmas was definitely going to be hell this year.

Here’s a little blurb about the story:

About our story:

Super Agent meets Super Hero. He can save the world, but can she save him?

Heroine is on a mission to stop her own government from building an army of clones. The only problem is this FBI agent’s on probation. No badge, no gun, no partner. Taking matters into her own hands, she goes undercover as a runway model during New York’s Fashion Week, and finds she can’t keep her eyes off the shoes or the sexy Armani-suit-wearing man who’s in a bit of trouble himself. She trips, breaks a heel, and falls face first…into his lap. Not only does she stumble onto one of the sexiest and most eligible bachelors in New York, she also stumbles onto one of the biggest undercover jobs of her career.

Hero is the typical New York bachelor on the surface, but he has a secret only one other person knows about. He and his buddy, a microbiologist, have discovered a cure for cancer-and it all lies in Hero’s genetic code. The mutation gives him the ability to regenerate quickly, giving him immortality. His secret, however, doesn’t remain a secret for long when his buddy is murdered in cold blood and the killers are now after him, intent on stealing the research-and his DNA-to build their own dark immortal army.

And the only one who can help him comes in a five-foot-ten package labeled Sex Goddess: Keep Out.

Book Review: Witches Anonymous

I’m slowly working my way through my TBR pile. It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it. So for today’s offering, I give you Witches Anonymous by Misty Evans.

Amy Atwood is ready to trade in her broomstick for the Good Life, swearing off her cheating demon-boyfriend, Lucifer, for all eternity. When she finds him in the arms of her sister, Amy joins Witches Anonymous, swearing an oath to herself never to use magic again. But Lucifer has other ideas. He wants Amy all to himself and No Man Shall Put Him Asunder. Even Adam incarnate.

Adam Foster is every witch’s hex dream. After all, who wouldn’t want a sexy fireman who comes galloping to the rescue? But Amy may have more than she bargained for when she learns the truth behind Adam’s appearance. Her timing for swearing off spell-casting couldn’t be worse as she realizes she’s faced with her possessed sister, a jealous Lucifer and a sexy Adam. Will Amy dust off her magic wand…or let fire and brimstone take over the world?

Witches Anonymous is a fun frolic. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop and finished it in one sitting. Amy is a character that’s hard to forget-she’s funny and fun. Misty Evans pens magical story full of mayhem and humor filled with snappy dialogue and, of course, fashion! It pained me as much as it did Amy when she found her closet full of shoes dumped haphazardly on the floor. I’m really looking forward to reading more of Misty’s work in the very near future.

You can get your own copy of Witches Anonymous at Samhain’s website by clicking here. And for more about Misty, check out her website here.

I fell in love with Confessions Of A Shopaholic by Sophia Kinsella years ago, before everyone knew how to speak Prada or the term ‘shopaholic’ became a sought after title. When I began writing fiction myself, I discovered how fun it was to live out my fashion addiction vicariously through my characters. My real-life budget was slim; my characters, however, were living la vida fashionista.

Amy, in Witches Anonymous, sums up my alter ego perfectly with this statement, “I have only one vice in life-lust. I lust for sinful men, dark chocolate and designer shoes.” In Amy’s closet, you’ll find D&G as well Louboutin. She actually went to Paris for a special pair of Louboutins. You can read why and what kind of trouble they got her into here. Trust me, they were worth every penny and then some.

Zara, in I’d Rather Be In Paris, is tagged by fellow CIA employees as a pampered rich girl. While she hates being lumped into the Paris Hilton category, she isn’t about to give up her Prada lifestyle. A pivotal point between Zara and her partner, Lawson, comes when he helps her take off a very expensive Valentino dress before they enjoy a night together…

Zara thought about it for a moment, looking down at the folds of white silk covering her legs. It would be a shame to wreck such a wonderful dress, but…

“Forget the dress. I can replace it if necessary.”

A sensual smile danced on Lawson’s mouth, and he stepped toward her. “You had to think about it.”

She took a step back. “It is a Valentino.”

The next morning, she wakes to find the Valentino hanging on a nearby wardrobe. At that moment, Zara realizes that Lawson gets her, all because he hung up her dress.

In the story I’m writing now, my heroine Brigit isn’t into fashion. She shuns suits and designer labels and is most comfortable wearing Gap. I share her down-to-earth love of clean lines and colorful layers. Gap also fits my budget and my lifestyle with twin boys and a dog who needs lots of exercise. What I gave Brigit was a love of lipstick.

“Wicked Woman?” Truman walked back into the bedroom and held up several tubes of lipstick. “Drama Diva? Professional Pink? Brickhouse? Where on Earth do you find these crazy colors?”

“The Rimmel beauty counter.”

“Have you ever worn any of them?”

Not often. Mostly she bought them for their names. They made her believe that if she did wear them, they’d provide whatever their name promised.

Ah, yes, fashion labels can often provide whatever their name promises…shopaholic, pampered rich girl, or maybe, smart investor like Rebecca Bloomwood. Until my fashion budget grows, however, I’ll have to keep living la vida Fashionista through my fictional characters, but oh what fun I have with them!
