Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.

Before I start today I just want to say that X-Men 3 is fantastic. The best one yet! Wow! And Hugh Jackman was delightful to stare at the entire time.  I have a novel that’s 90 percent done. I can’t finish it for whatever reason. And it has a few holes.

It’s been nagging at me for a few days. So I was talking with a writing friend about writing in general and she was asking me about my current WIP, which is supposed to be the follow-up to Talk Dirty To Me. I told her it felt like something was missing from the story and I didn’t know what. The story itself felt like it was moving in the right direction, but maybe my heart just wasn’t in it. I didn’t know. She then asked me the next question:  “Is there some other story you’re thinking about maybe?”

I immediately answered yes – the historical. AKA The Jousting Novel. So we chatted about that for a few minutes. The last crit go-round we had with this book, we all agreed it started in the wrong place. Even I felt like it did. It was all very stiff and pompous and just … blah. She asked me what I wanted to do with it and I told her – I want to make it a time-travel and have the heroine from the present. I didn’t know how she got there or why. All I did know was that the heroine had to be strong and fearless and she had to be able to take care of herself and she had to be able to joust. The hero had to be Alpha – tall, dark and oh-so-handsome. And…Scottish. Aye, lass. He has to be Scottish.

See? I heard his voice in my head. Dinae be tellin’ me ye havna heard a characters voice before, lass. I sat down then on Saturday night and wrote the first two pages of the novel. A new beginning and you know what? It’s going to be great. At least, I feel like it’s going to be great. I’m actually excited about working on it again. I can’t wait to see what happens. To find out who this virile Scotsman is. And to find out why my heroine is in 1300s England wearing La Perla…hmmm…

All right, that’s it. I gotta get to work.
