Hey I’m blogging over at ShoeIQ today. Check it out. :)Â
Yesterday, the Sweetie Boy and I got up early and met Brother and Best Good Friend at Ikea. I needed to utilize their van for hauling purposes. (It really sucks to not own an SUV anymore… I miss it in times like that but I don’t miss the gas bill or the high payment.) I bought an 8-drawer chest and a 6-drawer chest (click the links to see what they look like – I got them in antique stain). It was relatively uneventful – drove there, got the stuff, drove back. Brother and Niece’s Boyfriend unloaded the stuff and then I put gas in their van and they headed home.
And then the real fun began. It took me five hours to put together the 8-drawer chest. FIVE! Of course, the directions are not real clear either. No words. Pictures only showing you what you’re supposed to do and NONE of the parts are labeled with ANYTHING. In my head the entire time, I kept hearing “One of these things is not like the other…”
Anyway… It was totally kicking my ass. At one point, I got so frustrated, I just laid down on the floor and wept. My sweet baby, though, hugged me and said, “Don’t cry, Mom. I’m here.” Aw. I hugged him hard. The hard part was getting the damn top on and the holes lined up. THAT was the biggest pain in the arse. But I got it done, finally. I got the drawers put together and everything was done.
By then, it was time to get the sweet baby home. After dropping him off, I got home and ate dinner (I cooked a pork roast and veggies in the crock pot all day and it was delish). I was in a lot of pain from putting together the 8-drawer chest, but I wanted to get the other one done. I desperately needed the space. So I tackled it. And it started to rain outside. Lots of thunder and lightning.
The 6-drawer didn’t take nearly as long. I got it done in about two hours. And it was a helluva lot easier than the other one.
It’s really nice I have storage space now. The furniture is a lot bigger than it looked in the store. Either that or I just got used to having the mini-dresser and the particle board chest of drawers. I’m just so happy I have real grown-up furniture now!
No writing to speak of, but I’ve been getting the urge lately. It’s like this nagging presence in the back of my mind. The problem is, there are several different things running through my head and I’m just not sure which one I want to work on. MAGIC has been pulling me hard lately. More specifically, the second book in the series, MAGIC UNTOUCHED. Perhaps I’ll write what’s in my head and piece it together later.
Well, time to work! Happy Monday, all.
