The Wrath of Rita

Quote du Jour:
“I’m gonna lead you down the path that rocks.”
–Kronk’s Shoulder Devil, The Emperor’s New Groove

It looks like Rita has changed her mind about visiting Dallas/Fort Worth. Fine, then. :talktohand: We don’t want yer sorry ass here anyway. She’s making a right hook and headed straight for East Texas – Longview area. Which is worrisome because both my sisters live there. I hope they are going to be all right. I’m sure they will be, but I still worry.

The traffic getting out of South Texas was, to say the least, a bear. And I’m putting it mildly. State officials finally got smart and opened up I-45 and I-35 northbound on both sides of the highway. I feel for those poor people stuck in that traffic though. I’m hearing a normal 2 hour drive is taking 14 hours. No lie.

Beaumont and Port Arthur look to be the hosts for Rita’s wrath.

The Diamond Shamrock by my house was completely sold out of gas this morning. I will be stopping on the way home (if there’s any to be had) and fill up my tank. I have a half a tank, but I still think it would be wise to fill ‘er up.

It’s cloudy here today and the sun hasn’t broken the sky yet, so it should make for an interesting day. We’re supposed to get rain tomorrow and Sunday, but I’m thinking we’ll just be on the fringes of Rita. It won’t be as bad as what we originally thought.

According to news reports, a bus carrying elderly evacuees caught fire in gridlock on a highway near Dallas yesterday. Speculation is at least 20 fatalities. And why the :censored: do I have to register on the news site to read a fricking story? It pisses me off. I don’t want your bloody email alerts, I just want to read the news. Annoying. A lot of the evacuees have come here to escape Rita’s force. All the hotels/motels are full, gas stations are running out of gas. Husband is supposed to be in from DC tonight and I hope to holy hell he can land. It worries me.

Today is going to age me. I feel it coming.

In other news, I slept like the dead last night. Thank goodness. Next door puppy only barked once at 2:45. Woke me from a dead sleep. Drifted in an out and was surprised when the alarm went off this morning. It didn’t seem like it was time to get up yet.

I made major edits on my contemporary draft, first three chapters. Tweaked the cover letter, read over the synopsis one more time for typos. Found a few. THEN, the submission is off to the editors over at Liquid Silver Books as soon as I get home tonight. Wish me luck! I’m very excited. Trying to decide on an ending I keep waffling back and forth between two different ones. I have a version saved as “alternate ending” (sort of like the Director’s Cut .. haha) just in case I change my mind. That way I can easily switch back and I don’t wipe out my original words. I don’t know what to do.

Well, on to work. Hope everyone in Rita’s path stays safe!
