Updates! & Memory Lane

Quote of the Day:
If the doctor told me I had six minutes to live, I’d type a little faster.
-Isaac Asimov

First things first: Rush right over to Voodoo’s blog for her hilarious monthly horoscopes. I’m telling ya, I was weeping with laughter.

And don’t forget to check out Leigh’s new homestead and her Morning Report. Once again, the horoscope had me in stitches.

Congrats to Colin who has a publication in WildChild! HOORAY Colin! Rush right over and check out his story.

More congrats to Devon who has finally broken into Espresso Fiction!

Man, I know some talented folks. 😉

Now, on to the nitty gritty.

Guess what? My editor at Samhain emailed me yesterday regarding the second round of edits for TALK DIRTY TO ME. And guess what else? She said she really didn’t see the need for a second round of edits because the manuscript was so good to begin with. Actually, the word she used was “flawless”. I had three questions she addressed and we have it finalized. She is now formatting it and getting it ready for proofing.

I am so terribly excited about this, I can’t hardly stand it! I can’t wait for my cover art! I can’t wait to see my name on that book and have it in my hand! I CAN’T WAIT!

I filled out my “if you’d like to know more about this author” information and sent it off to the editor. I’m trying to be timely and quick about everything because you never know what can happen with the schedule – just like with Ransom & Fortune.

And speaking of R&F, there’s lots happening in that world. Inara Press will be launching a contest soon and you’ll be able to win a free subscription to Season 1 of the serial of your choice. At least, I think that’s how it’s going to be. Regardless, R&F WILL be one of the prizes, so be sure to stick around and see how that contest develops. I am also putting together a contest for three free subscriptions to Season 1. Details will be forthcoming on that.

If you haven’t yet, please sign up for my newsletter! You can do that here.

I’m working on the newsletter now and hope to have it out sometime this weekend.

What else?

I balanced my checkbook! Trust me, folks, it was a feat.

On the work front, I had a meeting in Dallas on Wednesday about some new projects I’ll be handling. I can’t wait. I think this is going to be a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of something that’s going to be BIG. Right now, I’m hunting and gathering and making large matrixes (is that a word?) and getting materials together. So there’s some excitement going on there.

I have also realized I have no money and it’s completely depressing. I even considered getting a second job, but then I would really have zero time to write. So for now, I’m going to struggle along and wonder how in the hell I managed to live alone on a much smaller income over seven years ago. Maybe because I drank so much tequila I was oblivious to it all.

So because I’m bored, I am know going to launch in a really long story about a past life. Feel free to skip ahead if you wish.

The other day, someone at work asked me how I ended up being friends with my Best Good Friend. I told her it was a really funny story and it started off years ago before the Internet had even come into being. (By the way, another person had said to me that he was on Yahoo before it was popular and that I probably didn’t remember it then. I had the great pleasure of telling him I was BBSing LONG before there was the Internet. I’m an old pro at it…anyway…) There used to be BBSs (Bulletin Board Systems) – maybe you remember those, maybe not – and of the BBSs, there were boards that were multi-line. And there was this little board called Argus that had multiple chat lines and a fun little game called MajorMUD. So one day, after the demise of my first marriage, my brother convinced me to log onto Argus. I suppose you could say Argus is where online dating really began. And, trust me on this one, the guys were so not attractive. Except for a handful. No, I take that back. Except for two – my boyfriend and my best good friend’s boyfriend.

But I digress. So anyway, I logged onto Argus and the next thing I know Brother is dragging me to a Get Together (or GTG as they were known back in the day). And that’s where I met my first Hot Boyfriend (whom I did NOT marry thankyouverymuch) and where I also met my Best Good Friend. Who is also known as…Voodoo.

So Voodoo and I (incidentally, I was known as Tankaray) didn’t much like each other at first until she started dating Brother (known as Gaffer in the world of Argus). We got to know each other and when our hot boyfriends would ditch us, we’d sit at the bar and slam shots. Her poison was Jagermeister, mine was Jose Cuervo. We’d get slobbering drunk and then our hot boyfriends would have to carry our drunk-asses home.

And where am I going with this, you might ask? The four of us would sit up all night playing MajorMUD because were all flat broke because we’d blown it all at the bar at the weekly GTG! And THAT is how our friendship was born – just about 10 years ago.

Good golly, that seems like a long time ago. Another lifetime for sure. And now, here I am…flat broke except no MajorMUD. At least I still have my best good friend.

And now that you’re completely bored out of your skull, I’m going to shut up now. It’s coffee time.

I wish you all could be inside my head. The conversation is sparkling.
