Teaser #1:
Standing at the counter one early morning a few weeks before Christmas, David Sawyer was doing inventory of their latest in icing-covered pastries. He expelled an exasperated breath. They were out of Christmas tree shaped cookies and only had wreathes and stars. And no one had touched the slices of fruit cake since they arrived six days ago. David suspected the only thing they’d be good for was as a door stop.
He glanced at his watch to see it was nearly seven-thirty. Where was the morning crowd?
“Where’s the morning rush?” Louise asked, echoing his thoughts. She was in her early twenties, putting herself through college to complete her master’s degree. “We’re usually busy as hell this time of year.”
Question: What is the best thing about Christmas?

Spending time with family is the best thing about Christmas. 🙂
I love that, too
The way everyone seems to be in a more charitable and happier mood.
Christmas Cheer is the best. 🙂
Spending time with family, the joys of the season, and being able to celebrate the birth of our Savior!
Hi, Susan! I agree. Thanks for coming by!
Well, I was born? And my mother’s name was Mary and my father was a carpenter? No, really … but being born on Christmas has always made it more magical to me and made the giving last all day. We’d open Christmas presents in the morning, but I couldn’t open birthday presents until that afternoon when family arrived. I enjoy that child-like feeling of of excitement and nervousness watching someone open a present that you looked so hard for and the giddiness when you scored with a win. I love everything about Christmas .. the baking, the shopping, the wrapping, the cards, the music, the decorating (not sure where I’m going to put the tree in the small apartment) … but most of all … the love.
That’s wonderful, Eve. 🙂
Oh definitely for me it is the time spent with family.
Thanks for stopping by, Jean!
The ability to stop after the mad rush of the holiday preparations to actually enjoy them, along with everyone you prepared them for. Having the chance to sit with family, to visit, to re-assess priorities, to reset the life clock…. and to feel that intrinsic reward of giving of yourself. The sights, the sounds, the magic all contribute to an overwhelming feeling of being BLESSED, feeling LOVED, and awakening that childlike excitement that there is so much more to come. That is the best part of Christmas to me.
Forgot one of the most important parts….reflecting on God’s great gift to us all. Now that is some kind of gift!
So glad you stopped by, Heather. Thanks for sharing!
Well Jesus is a given, so aside from the whole reason for Christmas, let’s say the atmosphere and how everything changes at Christmas. People tend to be friendlier and we tend to be more thankful for the people we have in our lives. So, the magic that Christmas is is the best part!
I agree. Amy. Christmas is magical!
Spending time with family & being in a more positive, grateful frame of mind.
That’s my favorite thing too, Phyllis
Christmas carols, movies, trees, lights, snow, Advent calendars, spending time with family, and of course, The Christmas Story.
the decorations
The best part of Christmas is seeing people relax and smile and be simply be happy. It’s so wonderful to sit back, let go of your problems and just revel in the day and all of its wonderful meanings.
Hi, Connie! I love that too – just not thinking about anything!
The best thing about Christmas is when you spend time with your family and celebrate the holidays. It’s also when I get to have a family reunion with my relatives who I don’t see often. It’s also about seeing the happiness of everyone. Also, I just love the decorations especially the Christmas tree, the foods, and the gifts are an added bonus.
My favorite thing is how it makes people act better towards each other. There’s a beautiful sense of childlike innocence that comes off of people….making them nicer to be around..although the craziness it brings out can be amusing too..I will enjoy it more now that I’m a mom and get to bring joy to my little ones face with all the decorations and family fun
