This weekend was truly wonderful. No where we had to be; nothing we had to get done. Just nice and leisurely.
We spent New Year’s Eve at home. I’ve never been one to spend the holiday out and about. I don’t like driving home that late at night with all the drunks. I prefer to drink at home. I had stopped at Majestic and picked up a bottle of Bailey’s and Bacardi – Bailey’s for the Man and the Bacardi for me.
We did some light shopping at Walmart, which was a total zoo, to be honest. We also stopped at Hallmark (I’m in search of a nice photo album for the wedding pictues – one I can expand and one that will take 8×10 photos but I”m having a difficult time finding what I want). Man bought me a new recipe book with recipe cards. I have stacks and stacks of recipes printed. It just looks messy so I was very excited to get the new recipe book. I spent a good portion of the weekend, off and on, writing down recipes and deciding what to keep and what to toss.
I also managed to get all the Christmas decorations down and put away Friday. I was ready to get it done and the house back to normal. The Christmas clutter begins to drive me crazy after a while. Man got me a digital photo frame for Christmas, so I spent time putting photos together and copying them to the frame. I love it!
Watched the Stars get their butt kicked by the Canucks. Drank rum and Coke while the Man had his Bailey’s and coffee.
I took a power nap somewhere around 10 pm and then woke up in time to see the new year roll in. We watched the Big D NYE show with the bad bands and finally crawled into bed close to 1 am. Somewhere in the neighborhood, there were people shooting off fireworks and even shooting a gun (retards). I was happy to be safely ensconced in my bed.
We slept really late on Saturday. The cat finally decided at 9:30 it was time for us to get up. 😉 That and he wanted to be fed. Got up, cooked a large breakfast and did all the laundry. Changed the sheets on the bed. There’s something about having fresh sheets on the bed!
We ran some errands and went grocery shopping in the middle of the afternoon. The store was quite a change from the day before – it was practically dead and we loved strolling through it, shopping at a leisurely pace. Got home, unloaded all the groceries, cooked dinner. Watched a movie. I finished reading a book on my Nook (Eloisa James’s A Duke of Her Own and I quite enjoyed it). Got to bed sometime close to midnight.
And got up late again. I’ve been lazy but sometimes I think it’s necessary. 🙂 The cat decided at 9 am it was time to get up. He’s a furry alarm clock that sits at the foot of the bed and meows.
Got up, had breakfast, wrote more recipes. Sunday is usually laundry day but since it was all done and put away, I did some cleaning. Dusted, cleaned the bathrooms while Man vacuumed. Decluttered. Put things away. Got things organized. Went to Office Depot and picked up toner for the printer. Went to Michael’s and picked up a frame for the 16×20 wedding photo printed on canvas. Hung it up (it looks smashing!). Made beef stew in the crock pot all day (delish!). Wrote more recipes. Watched football.
I’m lamenting that today is Monday and it’s back to the normal grind. Back to work. Back to all the required scheduled. I loved the leisurely pace of the long weekend. It was fantastic. But I suppose the structure of a “normal” work week makes me appreciate it all the more. I won’t have any more time off until May, when we have our first holiday, and that seems like a really long time away!
This week, though, I’m starting my 2011 goals and heading into my official 3-year plan (which I haven’t revealed because I feel like it might jinx me haha). I’ve printed the first 60 pages of my current WIP and I’m back to work on that. My goal to get it finished is March 1.
And so… 2011 is off to a good start! So far. 🙂
Good for you!!! This time of year is always so conflicting–the “joy” is over but there’s a sense of renewal–and DETERMINATION.
Here’s to success!
ps LOL on your kitty! 🙂
I get so much more done in unstructured time. Structured time makes me resentful and then I procrastinate.
