Is this really the last week of March? I can’t believe how fast this year is already going.
My son is off to camp next week for five days on his big 5th grade field trip. The husband and I have been busy getting things together for him. We had to get him some new clothes and some gear – sleeping bad, duffel bag, rain poncho, flashlight. I think I have just about everything except for a few little miscellaneous things. When school first started, the camping trip seemed to far away and now here we are!
Which means, also, that school is nearly out. And then he will officially be in middle school. Egads.
We had a nice weekend. Friday night we had dinner at Don Pablo’s and then just hung around the house and didn’t do much of anything. The kiddo has been sick off and on for a few days with a mysterious virus that we can’t figure out. I think he’s finally come out of it. Thank goodness. I felt bad for him. Poor guy couldn’t keep anything on his stomach.
Saturday was about running some errands and then I went and hung out with the Plotting Princesses for our mini-retreat. And in case you missed it, I’m doing a new series over there called The Newbie’s Guide to Writing. The first post, Finish The Damn Book, went live last week. Check it out if you have a chance! Afterward, I hurried home so we could hit the 9 pm showing of The Hunger Games. We haven’t been to a late show in a long time (maybe not ever together) so we had a lot of fun standing in line with all the other people. We ate a large vat of popcorn. The movie was GREAT but I swear I cried like a baby during one part. Jennifer Lawrence was excellent as Katniss – that girl can act circles around the rest of the cast. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And, best of all, it followed the book quite closely. Always nice when a movie can do that.
Got home at midnight, drank some “nighty night” tea and then crashed. Sunday we did stuff around the house. Since we’d been busy the previous two weekends, it was in desperate need. We’d also gotten a fair amount of rain, so the yard needed a lot of TLC. The husband got busy mowing while I cleaned and did laundry. It took nearly all day for him (and me) but we got everything done. We made a run to Lowe’s – because that’s our normal Sunday afternoon shopping excursion during the spring/summer – and bought some rose bushes. I can’t wait to get them in the ground. In the next few weeks, I’m going to get more bedding plants, plus plant some herbs and flower seeds. Hopefully I will be able to grow them this year. Last year, the heat scorched everything. We grilled burgers and I made martinis – another Sunday afternoon tradition. 🙂
And I’m still writing. I’m currently working on Knight 2. I’m just over 83k and still writing. I hope to finish it this week or next and then comes the really hard part – editing.
Some of you may remember that I started the Dave Ramsey plan. I’m pleased to say I have completed Baby Step 1 and I’m currently working on Baby Step 2. By the end of this month, I will have paid off six credit cards, with four accounts left. All the biggies, but I’m fairly certain I can get it all done in the next 12-18 months. That’s the goal anyway. I feel good about it and I’m really starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can’t tell you what peace of mind it gives me knowing that most of this debt is no longer hanging like a big black cloud over my head. BUH-BYE debt!
And that’s about it for me. I hope everyone has a lovely week. Tuesday and Thursday I’ll have guests, so please come back and show ’em some love, k?
