Happy Halloween! I seriously cannot believe it’s already Halloween and November 1 is upon us. This year has FLOWN. I’m sad October is already over, too. It’s one of my all-time favorite months. And now, November and December will be gone in the blink of an eye and we’ll be into the new year. sigh
Ah well. Such is the way of things.
In other news, I’m happy to report I have finalized the papers on Dexter and he is officially ours. He’s a total sweetie and I love having him. I should say we love having him. He’s managed to settle right in and when the kiddo is here, he sleeps at the end of his bed. (He’s not allowed on our bed since the Man has severe kitty allergies.) Dexter has a permanent home now which is great because he was homeless and a stray before. I’m glad to have him and I love that he’s black for Halloween (though we are going to take some precautions tonight while we have trick or treaters – I would hate for him to get out).
We had a busy weekend. Friday was the annual Halloween party at the office. It was pretty much a lost day. But I have to say it was kind of fun and lots of people dress up and get into the spirit of Halloween. We had lunch and a costume and skit contest and then we got to leave early. So I high-tailed it out of there and headed to pick up the kiddo. We made a trip to Party City and I bought a fog machine in prep for the big day. I’m so excited! I can’t wait to use it tonight. We tested it out Saturday night and it works great.
Friday night we grilled steaks and hung around the house. Watched the Rangers lose the World Series which was heartbreaking. We went to bed at the top of the 8th when they were behind. We couldn’t watch anymore. It’s just sad because the Rangers were a better team with a lot better guys who totally deserved to win. Maybe next year. 🙂
I slept until nearly 10 on Saturday. It was awesome. I rarely sleep that late but I’ve been really tired lately and needed it. Felt great to sleep in like that. Then we ran errands. We went to DSW so Man could return some shoes and, of course, I purchase two new pairs. I got some great brown boots and some black wedges (Madden and Nine West respectively). Then I had to return a shirt to Old Navy and the line was horribly long. They had three registers open. I swear, I think we waited in like at least twenty minutes. It was awful. And the kids in line were awful. Parents don’t seem to know how to control this children these days.
After that frustration and we were out of there, we headed to the PetSmart to see the cat people about Dexter. It didn’t take long to finish up the papers.
We had dinner at a great Mexican place and then went home and watched the original Star Wars which we hadn’t seen in a long while. I love that movie so much. It’s great fun.
Sunday was our bi-weekly grocery shopping trip which is always a beating. I got a really cool cauldron to put the Halloween candy in. I’m looking forward to handing out candy this year.
We also bought mums for the front of the house – yellow, purple, red and orange. It makes the house look all fall and stuff. I love it. We also carved pumpkins. The kiddo wanted to do his own design so this is his, all lit up. It’s a pirate. That right eye is an eye patch. I thought it was pretty darn good. I carved one that’s a spider on a half moon. It came our really well. We did this together today and I made him clean out the insides of the pumpkin. He wasn’t very excited about that. 😀 But it was good for him.
I bought some battery operated tea light candles that flicker like the real thing. I figured it would be safer than candle, especially with the fog machine going.
Can you tell I’m excited for Halloween? I’m slowing getting decorations together for it. I also bought a lit broom that was on clearance from Lowe’s this year. It’s hanging up on the porch.
For dinner we grilled burgers and dogs and since it was BBQ night, it was also martini night. It’s become a silly tradition that I made martinis when the Man is grilling burgers. I don’t know why. But it’s fun.
Got a couple of critiques back on my current WIP with positive reviews so that makes me happy. I’m going to focus on that, though, and try to get it knocked out soon so I can get it submitted. One of my CPs said that I need get on with book two because she wants to know what happens next. I thought about working on that for NaNo but if the past is any indication of the future, not sure if I can get 50k done in a month. It’d be nice to try, though. I’m still working on Knight 2 also and am about 14k into the story. Still have lots more to go. I also have a lot reading to do for some friends.
The weather has been positively lovely lately. High in the mid-70s and lows in the 40s. I love, love, love it. Nice change from the horrible summer we had.
That’s it for me. Time for work and school. Hope you all have a great Halloween!
Happy Halloween! And Congratulations on Dexter! So glad you guys were a good fit!!
So glad Dexter’s staying!
