It’s hard for me to believe Thanksgiving is over and December is upon us. Seems like yesterday the new year just started, didn’t it?
We had a nice holiday. We spent it at my mom’s where we visited with my nephew and his wife. I enjoyed the low-key day without all the frenzy and hurrying around. Friday we hung around the house in the morning and then did a little light shopping. We certainly didn’t get on the Black Friday rush (which I think is silly) but we did hit a few stores and picked up some things we needed. Husband found a miter saw for a really good price at Lowe’s. I made him buy it. We went back the next day and they were all gone. I was glad he got it. I also managed to get him a few gifts on the sly while we were there. I think I’m almost done shopping – I’m keeping it light this year since I’m on a shoe-string budget.
I also raked leaves. An exercise in futility really. But the yard looks better. I made the kid help. We filled over 10 leaf bags. My arms and legs are tired. 🙂 Did laundry, cleaned house and other miscellaneous things. We met husband’s son and finance for dinner on Saturday night. Stuffed ourselves with sushi.
Oh, yeah, and finished my edits! It was a working weekend for me. But I got all 200 pages read and edited and it’s about ready to turn in. I’m so relieved since this is going to be a busy week. I have the company Christmas party on Thursday and my RWA meeting on Saturday.
This year I’m trying something different. I decided to bake ahead and freeze the Christmas cookies. I’m trying to simplify my life and not kill myself three days before Christmas. So far I have two batches of Christmas goodies done and ready to go. I’ve already decided to make ahead cookie dough and freeze it so I can bake when I’m ready. I love this new system and the fact that we have the freezer space so I can do it.
I’m not going to let the holidays run over me this year. That’s why I’m trying to plan ahead and get things done ahead of time so when the day comes, I can relax and enjoy the day with the hubby and kid. Sounds like a good plan, eh?
Hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend.
