First – Happy birthday to my shoe-loving niece! She’s 12 today! OMG I feel old…
Why is it… the kid throws a fit when he tries to pull his tooth but getting a crown and three teeth pulled by the denist is no biggie? I really expected things to go a lot worse this morning after our appointment but… they didn’t. We arrived on time to the dentist office and they took him right back. They wouldn’t let me stay back there, which is probably a good thing. I would have been cringing more than he did.
The dentist office somehow forgot we had insurance and wanted to charge me $800 for the day. I nearly had a heart attack right there at the counter. I said, “This is my portion after insurance?” And she gave me a blank look and then said, “You have insurance?”
Um. YEAH! We didn’t the first appointment but now we do and I’m not paying $800. Of course, I would if I had to but still… Anyway, my portion came out considerably less but I swear I was a nervous wreck after that.
After I paid and collected my kiddo, we got in the car. He started to be a little weepy – I think because he was numb and biting down on gauze. Not so much that he was in pain. I had two errands to run while we were out – bank and gas (EEK) – and then we headed home. He was a champ! He let me change his gauze every few minutes.
By the time his numbness wore off, I expected him to be in some kind of pain. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I asked if he wanted Motrin. Nope. He was fine. In fact, he was so fine, he was bouncing off the walls later. He watched a couple of movies, played a few computer games, a Wii game, and then hit the sack early.
Since he had an extraction, he can’t have any carbonated drinks or use a straw for another day. And no more chewy, sticky candy. Ever. Not with that crown (soon to be two). We go back on the 23rd for Round 2 on the other side of the mouth. Poor kid. I hope his permanent teeth are in better shape than his baby teeth.
The dentist gave us the three teeth they pulled in a tiny treasure chest. He put them under his pillow with a letter to the Tooth Fairy. I thought that was pretty cute.
Anyway, that was pretty much my day yesterday. I was bored out of my mind and couldn’t focus on anything worthwhile. I’m very happy to be getting back to the office today and getting back to work. LOL
Next week, he has Vacation Bible School. And I have a dental appointment myself on the 18th. Looks like June is going to be pretty busy.
Yeah, the dentist is NO FUN for Mom. I would have had a heart attack, too! Yikes!
How’s the writing??? 😀
