Every now and then I make a dinner that’s really great and the kiddo likes and asks for again.
On the other side of that, every now and then I make a dinner that’s a total flop. Last night was one such dinner. I don’t know where my head was. I guess becuase we got home late, I was in a hurry to get dinner started so it wouldn’t be too late before we ate. I was making chicken friend steak, one of the kiddo’s favoriate meals. It’s easy to make, really. But I totally botched it.
As I was frying it in the pan, I kept thinking it didn’t look right. There was no breading. I couldn’t figure out why. I got them out of the grease and put them on a platter to drain. I also made mashed potatoes. I put butter, milk, sour cream, and that fresh garlic in a jar in the potatoes. I did all that, then I whipped them up. As I pulled the milk out of the fridge, it occured to me what I’d left out on the chicken friend steak – the egg wash! DUH! That would definitely make a difference on breading.
I also steamed some peas and made garlic bread. I made up the plates and we sat down to eat. I took a bite of mashed potatoes and they were awful. I couldn’t figure out why. The milk and sour cream was still good. I got up, picked up the jar of garlic and took a sniff. It was BAD! I guess it had finally reached it’s limit and died. I had to throw everything out.
So, I messed up the chicken friend steak (it was greasy cube steak) and the pototes were terrible. The only thing decent was the peas. Oh and the bread wasn’t so bad either.
If it hadn’t been 35 degrees outside, I would have just tossed it all in the trash and headed for Sonic. However, there was no way I was going out in that cold. We were in for the night.
Oh well. I guess that’s the way it goes sometimes. 🙂

And as far as jury duty went… well, I was out of there by 10 am! I was in the first round that got picked to go to a court (criminal court). We all get up there and about five minutes later, the bailiff comes out and says the case pled and we can all go home. WOO! I collected my $6 and headed out. I decided to walk the seven blocks back to the office instead of having Man come pick me up.
Mistake! It was still 29 degrees outside! I nearly froze my bum off. I ran the last three blocks. hehe
Anyway, that’s it for me. I’m off to take the kiddo to school and then to work. Two weeks until Christmas!
Man, I would have jumped in that car like LIGHTNING fast and gone to Sonic! Why? We don’t HAVE Sonics here where I am! Waaahh!
Sorry about the dinner. Don’t you hate it when ONE bad ingredient spoils the whole thing? I am just impressed you cooked. I am a “heater upper” when I’m in a hurry for dinner. 😀
Sorry about the dinner, but things like that happen to me too often. We’re having a lot of people over on Sunday and I hope I make it through without any food mishaps. I decided to make a new cake recipe too. It got mostly 5 star reviews on allrecips, but maybe this won’t be a good time to try something new.
