So on the way home from work yesterday, I started thinking about the blurb for my current WIP. I’d been tinkering with it off and on for the last month or so but I could never get it just right. I figured out a good logline but as for the blurb, it was flat and dull.
Usually, my jaunt up 7th Street only takes about 5 minutes, if I can hit all the lights just right. Yesterday, though, there was a wreck in the intersection just before getting into downtown. So I was stuck on 7th, surrounded by idiots. Which doubled my commute toward the freeway and gave me extra time to think. I’d been mulling over the blurb most of the day while working on adding resumes to the database. 🙂 So as I’m sitting in traffic, it hits me. I knew how I wanted it to start.
Of course, I had to repeat it in my head over and over before I forgot it. I picked up the kiddo, picked up dinner, got home, ate, started homework, got ready for basketball and headed out the door with Mini in hand. Once practice started, I wrote the 300 word blurb! I think it turned out really well and I think it’ll be a great start to my query letter.
I also wrote nearly 2000 words yesterday and busted the 73k mark. WOO! I’m looking forward to getting this done and sent off to the CPs. I really want to hear the feedback and see what other people think about it because it’s definitely a story I’m proud of and I had a blast writing.
After I got the blurb written up, I worked on brainstorming some for Books 2 and 3. I have a general idea for Book 2 and not a clue for Book 3. 😉
Anyhoo. Not much else to talk about. I’m just really glad it’s Friday!
Yup, inspiration hits in the strangest places. I know about repeating it over and over. I’ve been advised to keep a small tape recorder in the glove compartment, but I never remember.
Hey, don’t forget the iPhone has voice memo capabilities under utilities! But, if you are like me, it doesn’t do much good because I can write it better than speak it!
