I finished reading Shadowfever late Saturday evening. It was probably one of the best books I’ve ever read. I had a hard time pulling my head out of that world when I wasn’t reading and the story has stayed with me long after finishing it. Even now, I’m still thinking about it. All the questions were answered but she DID manage to leave a few dangling threads. You just *know* there’s going to be something else cool on the way. Moning’s writing is gritty and emotional and she’s not afraid to tell the story the way it needs to be told. There are some difficult things Mac has to face to achieve her ultimate goal but when she finally does, you really want to cheer. There were parts that made me choke with emotion and others that made me giggle. It’s definitely a series on my keeper shelf. And I can’t wait to start over with Darkfever and read the whole thing again. 🙂
We had a somewhat laid back weekend. Friday night we went out for Mexican food and stuffed ourselves silly. Saturday the kiddo had a basketball game (they won!) and then that afternoon the three of us went to see Tron. I really didn’t think it would be worth much other than some cool special effects but I have to admit there was actually a decent story. Some of the dialogue was cheesey, but I could live with tha. And the special effects WERE cool. The computer generated younger-self of Jeff Bridges was impressive.
Afterward we came home and ate more junk food (we had popcorn, sodas and candy at th movie and McDonald’s for lunch). It was a junk food day so Sunday I cooked a healthier meal (braised chicken, green beans, baked potato). Started working on my taxes (yuck). I’m organized and ready to input the numbers as soon as I get all my 1099s and W-2. I don’t like waiting until the last minute to file. I also did some filing and shredding of paperwork but my desk is still a wreck and needs some serious attention. Heck I need a new desk altogether. This one is crappy.
I didn’t get any writing done since the rest of my free time was consumed with the contest. I should have all the entries out in the next couple of weeks. I’ve been trying to a steady pace by doing some work on it every night. It’s paid off.
I also had a new idea for another story. I’ve jotted down some notes before it leaves the brain completely. 🙂
All in all, it was a good weekend. It astounds me this is the last full week of January. Where does the time go?!?
Seriously, I think it’s my favorite series, EVER. I LOVED Shadowfever!
Sounds like you had a great weekend!
