I think this week nearly killed me. Which actually started last Friday.
The field trip was fun. At least, I think the kids had fun. But it sure was a long day. We walked over 3 miles but we saw the Bob Bullock Museum all about Texas history and then walked to the state capitol. Here we are on the bus heading out just as the sun is rising. Oof. Yeah we were ON the bus by 5:25 and pulling away from the school by 5:30. That’s AM, folks.
Anyway, we didn’t get back home until well after 8 pm. Tired. I immediately guzzled two martinis. The kid fell asleep on the couch around 8:45. I carried him off to bed and put myself to bed shortly thereafter.
I woke up Saturday with the beginnings of a sore throat and I knew I was about to get hit with the bad stuff. Sure enough, by Monday we were all feeling crappy. All of us were sneezing, coughing, sniffling. We got hit hard with the allergies this week. The kiddo ended up at the doctor with very swollen glands in his neck. He got major antibiotics. I suffered through with the over the counter stuff.
It wouldn’t have been so bad if I could have slept. I took enough meds to keep my nasal passages clear enough to breathe, so that wasn’t the problem. I was just restless. Three nights of restless sleep makes for one cranky person.
We finally got a little rain and it seemed to wash away some of the pollen. The fires in the west weren’t helping either. Especially with all the high winds blowing the smoke toward us. (Sidenote: nearly 1 million acres have burned in Texas and we’re not in an extreme drought.) For whatever reason, we haven’t been having the normal thunderstorms/scary weather like we usually do in March and April. This year, it’s high winds and super dry conditions. Oklahoma and the rest of the east gets hammered, but not us.
This weekend we’re headed to my sister’s for Easter and visiting family. I’m so not ready. I have a lot to do before we go – grocery shopping, laundry, making up the eggs, making up a potato salad. Hopefully I can get it al done.
All I really want to do is sleep. I guess I’ll just keep on keepin’ on.
Happy weekend, y’all.
Feel better soon! Once you get there, you’ll have a blast. Maybe come home a little early so you can get some sleep and call in on Monday? You deserve the rest.
