Progress Update: Yeah, um. Zero. Suckage.
On the telephone pole in the backyard, we are greeted by this mockingbird every day. He starts singing before the sun comes up.
I have this theory: he’s our buddy. About two years ago, we had a young one in the backyard. It had just rained. And he couldn’t see me fly away. I think Mama and Papa were teaching him to fly. They were sticking VERY close and we were hanging back to make sure the baby wasn’t hurt. He hovered on the lowest rung of the fence for the longest time. We finally put water out before Mama and Papa gave up and left and we didn’t want the baby to die.
The next day, he was gone. So figured he finally figured out how to fly.
Ever since then, we’ve had a mockingbird hanging around. He sings and sings and sings. The telephone pole is on the same side of the yard where that baby had trouble. My theory is, he’s our buddy and he hangs around our yard because that’s where he learned to fly. Silly, I know. And probably not true, but I like to think that’s the same birdie. He’s pretty and he signs quite a lot. Every song he can sing. I stood in the yard for the longest time Saturday and watched him (and took this picture). He went from wire to wire the entire time he sang.
It was a gorgeous day Saturday with temps in the mid-70s. We got the grocery shopping done early (and the store was surprisingly empty), then got home and packed up all the food to head to my mom’s. We grilled burgers and hot dogs. It was so nice outside, in fact, we sat out on the covered deck and ate. It was great. We got home about 8 that night and I caught up on my Grey’s Anatomy while the kid watched Star Wars on his TV. Oh, and Mom gave me an herb garden as an early birthday present. I hope I don’t kill it. ๐ So far, I’ve managed NOT to kill the tomato plants and the pepper plant. That’s momentous.
I got a gift card to Starbucks for Mother’s Day, which is just perfect. I also got dinner at On The Border and stuffed myself silly. I even splurged and had the Kahlua Ice Cream Pie. MmmMmm.
We also had our last soccer game of the season on Sunday – and they won! The team went undefeated for the entire year. The boys played really hard this year and I can totally tell how much they’ve improved over the season. I’m actually looking forward to Fall soccer. ๐
Did laundry and other miscellaneous stuff. And then, the weekend was over. Sadness.
This week is going to be full. I hope I can get everything done.
Sounds like a great weekend. And you never know = it could be the same bird!
I’m convinced it’s the same bird. And he’s partial to your yard. ๐
Sounds like a great weekend! May your week be just as happy!
And GO Kiddo’s Soccer Team! WOO!
