It’s still hard for me to believe that I’m sitting in my very own house in my very own office. I drive up to the house every day and into the garage and when I step across the threshold, it’s still amazing to me that this is all mine. It’s so totally cool.
My girlfriends gave me some great ideas for color for the bedroom. Neutral yet classic and I’m so excited. I can’t wait to get it painted. I have to keep in mind that Rome wasn’t built in a day and I don’t have to do it all now. I can do it over time. But you know – I get antsy and I like to get things DONE.
This weekend, I was very fortunate to have my wonderful family over on Sunday for dinner. My big brother got the phone and DSL up and running. Turns out the problem wasn’t with the phone jacks after all but user error.
Yes. It’s true. I had lost my mind and didn’t realize it was all me the entire time. To think – I could have had phone/DSL for nearly the whole week if I had just used my head. Brother came over and plugged a regular phone into the phone box on the side of the house. It worked so inside we went to check out the jacks. They all worked. So he asks me what I was using to test the jacks. My cordless, I say. And he then asks if I had power to the cordless phone. Um. No.
:duh:
I feel like a total asshole. He laughed. As well he should have. But it wasn’t a fruitless effort. He did, after all, install a PCI card into my computer and get my very cool wireless DSL modem working. The modem, you see, is in my bedroom because there is no phone jack in this room. And so he set up a wireless network for me. I’m WiFi! How cool is that! Now I can use my laptop with internet access anywhere in the house. Not that I need to be using the laptop for that – I need to get back to writing. And – holy cow – it’s time to send out a newsletter, too, isn’t it?
Moving has seriously put a crimp in my routine. But I’ll get the mojo back.
Anyway… so Brother came with my sis-in-law (and best friend), the three kids and my niece’s boyfriend. It was a full house. Niece’s Boyfriend offered to put my desk together and you know what? I let him. The kid is sweet. He got the thing nearly put together except for three final small steps. I finished it up Monday night and it now resides in its new home. Now I just need to break down the computer and move it to its new home and – wala! I will have a new workspace. I real workspace. I’m so happy I could cry.
Sis-in-law and I cooked dinner. We fried chicken, set the drip pan on fire, and just basically made a huge mess. But you know, it was totally fun and I loved every minute of it. I’m so glad they came over for the evening. And then, after ward, Sis-in-law found the thing that was clunking around in my disposal – a rock. SO, not only did I get internet and phone, but a desk, and a fixed disposal.
Oh, and Saturday my dishwasher arrived. I love it! I’m so lame because I’m excited about a dishwasher. But it’s black and sleek and it’s very quiet. And I think the installation dude was hitting on me. He kept calling me “sweetie” and “honey” and then he happened to mention that he lived a few streets oer if I had any problems. And, oh by the way, here’s his cell phone number. Uh huh. Not gonna happen.
After he left, my cell phone rings and it’s My Guy. I tell him about the installation dude and he stakes his territory by asking if he needed to call the guy since he was making moves on his girlfriend. Yes. I am now a girlfriend. Not only am I a homeowner, I’m a girlfriend too. How cool is THAT?
Sunday, DirecTV was scheduled between 1-5. I got a call about 10:30 that morning from the installation guy who said he could come by. YES! My satellite was installed by noon and I’m now the proud owner of a DVR. I.am.so.happy. I have a DVR and I can pause and record and I can’t imagine how I lived without it now.
Let’s see… what else… Oh, yes. I have the chapter newsletter to get together. I gotta get that done this week. Sometime between organizing the office and stuff. You know. Plus hook up all the printers and move the comptuer and unpack the desk. So much to do! But I’ll git ‘er done.
And if you’ve made it this far – congratulations. I hope you haven’t been bored out of your skull. I hope to get back to writing this week and – oh – I’m VERY close to having artwork for the new book coming out at the end of next month. So YAY! on that.
Okay that’s it for me. Ya’ll have a grand day.
Geez, Michelle, a house and a boyfriend? Save something for the rest of us, huh? 😉
LOL! I really had no intention of getting a boyfriend… really and truly. :sealed:
