This week, we lost the incomparable Harold Ramis. Such a sad loss, too. Some of my favorite movies he either starred in or directed.
My son has recently become a Ghostbusters fan and watches the movies a lot. I’d forgotten how incredibly silly—and yet hilarious—that movie is. It still makes me giggle. And there are tons of quotable lines throughout. Such as:
I looked into the trap, Ray.
Dogs and cats living together! Mass Hysteria!
Mother pussbucket.
Okay. So. She’s a dog.
He slimed me.
I’m also reminded that back then, being a child of the 80s, the Button Craze was going on and we had buttons that said, “Okay. So. She’s a dog.” I had this awful acid wash jean jacket (which of course I thought I was TOTALLY COOL in) COVERED in them. I had a black one with white lettering that said, “I amaze myself.” Thank you, Han Solo. (Why I can remember THAT and not where I put my glasses, I have no idea…)
But I digress…
The other movie I adored by Harold Ramis was Groundhog Day. This movie, to me, was brilliant. Bill Murray was, as always, hilarious. I loved that he learned how to do all the things Andie MacDowell loved in a man to woo her.
I think one of my favorite scenes is where he kidnaps Punxsutawney Phil and drives with him. The whole time he’s telling him, “Don’t drive angry. Don’t drive angry!” When he sees Ned (after seeing him over and over) he just punches him. And all the times he kills himself and then still awakens the next morning.
There are a lot of other movies I could talk about but you tell me: What’s your favorite?
