AUDIO RELEASE: One Knight Only

August 9, 2019 By Michelle

I’m really excited to announce the release of the audiobook of One Knight Only, the first book in the Realm of Honor series. It’s a fun story set during the Middle Ages at a jousting tournament. There is lots of magic and mayhem!

Read by Katherine Willis

I love how the narrator, Katherine Willis, brought this story to life. She nailed all the characters and their voices. I’m so fortunate to work with someone so talented!

Here’s the blurb:

Do-gooder Maggie Chase throws her thesis out the window when she wakes up in the arms of a hot Scottish knight. When she realizes she’s somehow ended up back in time, she embraces the persona of Lady Margaret. But she may be in over her head when she realizes she has to keep the sexy knight alive during a jousting tournament in order to get back to her own time.

Sir Finian “Finn” McCullough is a gambling man and owes a very large debt to an evil earl who is after his family estate. When the beautiful and outgoing Maggie arrives in his bed, he can’t remember tupping her the night before and thinks she’s a spy for one of his neighboring clans. He intends to find her kinsman and return her safely but he can’t resist her charms, her smart mouth or her sex appeal. Instead he keeps her close, taking her with him to an important jousting tournament—one he has to win or lose his castle forever.

My Sexy Adventure @MySexySaturday #MSS165

October 29, 2016 By Michelle

mysexysat

1 OneKnightOnlyWelcome to Week 165 of My Sexy Saturday! This week’s theme is My Sexy Adventure. I’m posting a little excerpt from ONE KNIGHT ONLY, book 1 in the Realm of Honor series. This is one of my favorites! I love this book with features Finn and Maggie–he’s a sexy Medieval Scot and she’s a smart-mouth present day college student. There’s time travel, jousting, knights, damsels, magic and, yes, adventure! Check it out!

A groan behind her made her spin around, grabbing the linen and holding it to her bosom. On the bed, a dark-haired man she had never seen before rolled onto his back. He was shirtless, showing off every ripple of muscle and fantastic pectorals, the likes of which she had never seen in her life. Smooth, hairless skin with tremendous biceps and a narrow waist disappearing into the bedding that made her imagination run away with hot fantasies.

“Oh dear me,” she breathed.

Who was this man? More importantly, where the bloody hell was she?

A soft snore escaped him and Maggie couldn’t stop staring at that beautiful chest rising and falling with every breath. His long dark hair spilled around him. And his face…

“Wow.”

The word slipped out before she could stop it. His chiseled face hosted a strong square chin with a tiny indention in the center covered with a day’s growth of beard, a perfect nose, pronounced cheekbones, dark eyebrows. She propped a knee on the mattress, scooting closer to lean over him for a better look, amazed at how powerful his face appeared. Fierce. A man not to be trifled with. A man who knew what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to get it.

EXCERPT:

Lord Litonshire stepped up to his table. “Ah, Sir Finian, have you managed to let another cad steal your lady?” He nodded toward Derron and Maggie as they disappeared.

“If ye’ll pardon me…” Finn began but Litonshire interrupted.

“Oh, I don’t think so. We have some unfinished business.”

“If this is about Lady Juliet—”

“Not at all. It’s about another pressing matter.”

Finn clamped his hand around the earl’s arm and led him away from the table so Drake wouldn’t overhear their conversation. “You’ll be getting paid once tourney is over. That was the bargain.”

“And I’ve decided I don’t like that bargain, after all. Patience isn’t one of my strong suits. I’m ready for my money now. Or my lovely country estate in the lowlands of Scotland. I much would prefer the castle on a hill surrounded by a moat.”

“Ye’ll get nothing but a fist up yere nose again.”

“I could take what I want from you by force. You realize that, don’t you?”

Finn knew the man was more powerful than he. Plus he had the king as an ally. But he didn’t much care about that. All he cared about was getting Litonshire off his back for good. “If ye do, I will declare war on ye and take back what is rightfully mine.”

“Oh, but you lost it to me in a fair game of Hazard. Unless you wish to have a rematch?”

Finn was running out of patience with the man. “Ye give me until the end of tourney, as we agreed.”

“And if you lose?”

“Then the lands in Innisborough are yeres. But ye are forgetting I may not lose, in which case, my debt is paid and my lands remain mine.”

Litonshire clenched his jaw in aggravation, a muscle ticking. “We’ll see, won’t we?”

Instead he keeps her close, taking her with him to an important jousting tournament—one he has to win or lose his castle forever.

EXCERPT:

“Geoffrey, go back and tell the list marshal Finn will be at his match, ready to joust.”

“What?” Elyne snapped, her eyes round and wide.

“But, my lady?”

“Finn will be there and he will not forfeit. Understood? Go now and tell him at once.” Maggie waited until Geoffrey dashed away before she clamped a hand on Elyne’s arm and dragged her toward the tent. Excitement skittered through her. “Come with me, Ellie.”

“Just what do ye think you doing?” Elyne demanded.

“I have an idea.”

She dragged her inside where Finn’s armor lay, discarded. Maggie kneeled and picked up the breastplate, holding it in her hands while Finn moaned with his stomach illness.

Could she do it? For all intents and purposes, she could. It was the only way to keep Finn in the tournament. She could ride a horse, certainly, but she had never jousted.

“What are you doing?” Elyne asked in horror. Her eyes were wide, her jaw slack.

“I’m riding in his stead. And you’re going to help me.”

“Help you?” Elyne repeated. “Have you lost your mind?”

“Yes.” Maggie paused and looked at the princess. “You are Fae. You can use your magic to help me.”

“No, I can’t,” Elyne said quickly. She folded her arms over her chest, her jaw set in a stubborn line. “You must have Swiss cheese for a brain because you can’t seem to remember. It doesn’t work like that.”

“It doesn’t work like that or you don’t want it to work like that?” Maggie countered.

Elyne pursed her lips in silence.

“That’s what I thought. I can’t let Finn forfeit.”

“Why not?”

“Because then Lord Vile wins. Don’t you see? This is just what he wanted. I think he’s the reason Finn is sick right now and I’m not going to let him get away with it that easy. He’s going to pay for it and I’m going to make sure he does.”

“You are mad, woman,” Elyne said. “If you let him forfeit, then you don’t have to worry about keeping him alive. You can go home, Maggie. Back to your time. To your precious twenty-first century. All you have to do is let him lose and then I’ll send you back.”

“With the snap of your fingers or the wave of your Faery magic wand? No way. There’s more to this than I originally thought, Ellie. There are people here who need me. They need my help.”

“People like who? Lady Juliet?”

“Yes, her and—” Maggie snapped her mouth shut. She couldn’t tell Elyne she had every intention of getting her and Derron together.

“Her and who?”

“A, ah, certain Lord Brian.” She thought quickly to pull Lord Brian into the equation, the man she was certain Lady Juliet was in love with. They’d given each other the doe eyes after all. “And Finn. He needs me, too.”

“Lady Juliet is a lost cause, Maggie. She’s half dead as it is.”

“Exactly why I have to stay and help her. I have to get her away from that awful brother of hers,” Maggie said, her voice quivering an octave higher. Frustrated, she dropped to her knees, searching for a pair of breeches she could wear. “I don’t have time to stand here and argue with you.”

“What do you think you’re going to do? Wear his armor and joust? Do you even know how to ride a horse?”

“Ride, yes. Joust, no.”

Elyne continued to stare at her, stony faced, while Maggie rummaged through his clothing until she found a pair of his breeches. Snatching them up, she pulled them on. Then she searched through his clothing until she found a suitable tunic. Shimmying out of her shift, she slipped the tunic over her head.

“God’s teeth,” Elyne muttered. “You can’t compete in the tournament. ’Tis too dangerous and you’re impersonating a man. Something they don’t take too lightly in this time. You’ll be arrested and thrown in the stocks if they find out. Or worse, you could be killed.”

“Then we have to make sure no one finds out.”

Instead he keeps her close, taking her with him to an important jousting tournament—one he has to win or lose his castle forever.

EXCERPT:

When Maggie woke up, she had a splitting headache. Probably because she’d used a pair of rolled-up jeans and a sweater as a pillow. She strained her ears to listen but all she heard was silence. The rain had finally stopped and she could still feel the warm glow of the fire, which had to be embers by now.

Yet she couldn’t quite bring herself to open her eyes. She did a quick mental survey and thought it odd she wasn’t freezing to death on the cold stone floor. In fact, she felt positively warm and snuggly.

She rolled over with a groan, the mattress sighing with her weight and the linen covering swishing with her movement. Wait a second. I didn’t fall asleep on a bed. Her eyes blinked open to the pale morning light and focused directly on the fire blazing in the hearth, sending a warm golden glow across the room.

Maggie sat bolt upright, her head objecting to the sudden movement.

“What the hell?” she blurted.

She hadn’t fallen asleep on a bed. Nor had there been fine linen sheets to cover her. Her heart sputtered a fast cadence and her breathing increased to a rapid rasp, loud in her ears. She put a hand to her head, rubbing the taut skin at the hairline. She squeezed her eyes shut, hoping she was in some weird dream. Yet when she opened them again, she was still faced with the blazing fire in the hearth.

She hiccupped, her breath catching in her throat as she realized she was not in the abandoned castle’s great hall with the blazing fire. This hearth, it seemed, was nestled into a stone wall surrounded by tapestries. The stone floor was covered in a thick rug.

No, this wasn’t where she had fallen asleep last night at all.

“This is a dream,” she said aloud.

It had to be, right? It wasn’t real. Because it was the only explanation her tired mind would accept. Maggie slid to the edge of the bed, her bare feet hitting the cold floor and sending a shiver up her spine. Glancing down, she wore the underwear she had changed into last night—her lacy black bra and matching panties. But where were the rest of her clothes? Her suitcase? How in the hell did she get in this bed?

Staring into the fire, she mentally retraced her steps. The car breaking down, walking in the rain, getting soaked to the bone. And then the castle on the hilltop that was there and then wasn’t there. Yes, the castle. She glanced around. Was she still in that castle now? This one was fully furnished, it seemed. Whereas the one she ended up in last night was empty. And cold. And dark.

Maybe someone found her sleeping on the floor? She’d been so tired she didn’t notice when that someone had lifted her and brought her back to a warm bed. And any minute now that someone would bring her a steaming mug of coffee.

Maggie cocked her head to the side, enjoying her view, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. For a moment, she had forgotten she was in a strange place. Her long, auburn locks cascaded over her shoulder and brushed against him. The baby-fine strands must have tickled his skin, for his eyes popped open and stared back at her.

Gorgeous silvery eyes met hers and she blinked and pulled back.

But he was faster than she. He grasped her by her upper arms and dragged her to him, placing her on his lap as his large, powerful hands gripped her hips. Maggie was completely aware of all of him now. A hot fantasy splashed through her mind as she shifted on top of him. What was under the linen was apparent between her legs. Every last inch of him. Her hands landed on his chest, her senses delighting in the warm, soft skin beneath her palms.

His gaze lingered on her face a moment before gliding down, pausing on her lace-covered breasts and then continuing his downward jaunt. He fingered the waistband of her panties, running the pad of his forefinger over first one hipbone then her abdomen and back again.

The small movement sent white-hot heat shooting through her, awaking parts of her that weren’t used to being on alert so early in the morning. Especially without a cup of coffee.

His hands moved up her sides then, desire evident in those depthless silver eyes…and the appendage on which she happened to be sitting.

“Now, lass, ye best be telling me who ye are and why yere in my bed. No’ that I mind, but I canna recall tupping ye last eve and I always remember bonnie lasses I tup.”
